Overview:


 

Typical Schedule: Monday-Friday first shift (ie 8:00AM-4:00PM). Rotating weekends and holidays (these hours will vary from weekdays due to site operating hours).

Responsible for patient care, specimen processing, technical and procedural operations, and laboratory analyses. Serves as a primary contact for handling customer/patient concerns, taking immediate action when necessary, and communicating follow up to other members of the team.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for researching, developing, and implementing new or improved procedures and instrumentation; performing quality control, quality improvement, regulatory compliance tasks, maintaining appropriate supply inventory, daily operations, and employee schedules, training, and orientation.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and upholds applicable laws and regulations related to position. Maintains knowledge of techniques, procedures, and protocols, lab-wide and within lab section. Reviews and acknowledges procedures as required.
  • Maintains a safe environment. Wears appropriate personal protective equipment as designated by lab area. Reports spills and hazardous situations immediately and acts appropriately. Follows established guidelines for disclosure of patient information.
  • In Lab Testing Areas (non-waived testing): Fulfills the role of the CLIA “General Supervisor” for High Complexity testing and “Technical Consultant” for Moderate Complexity testing.


Education Requirement:

  • Testing Areas:  

  • Associate’s degree in medical laboratory technology, medical laboratory science, or clinical laboratory science OR 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution OR Bachelor’s degree equivalent education as defined in the Code of Federal Regulations 42CFR493.1405(b)(5)(i)(B) 
  • Non-Testing Areas: 

    Associates degree from an accredited institution


Certifications:

American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification, preferred.


Skills:

  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
  • Effective organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills to produce reports and graphs as needed. Demonstrates discipline-specific technical skills.
  • Promotes a team environment and maintains a cooperative and supportive atmosphere.

Experience:

Non-Testing Areas:

  • Two years’ experience in a similar laboratory, preferred.  

Testing Areas:

  • Associate’s degree, must have > 4 years’ experience in a designated testing specialty in a CLIA lab 
  • Bachelor’s degree, must have > 2 years’ experience in a designated testing specialty in a CLIA lab
