As a Family Support Provider, you will play a vital role in assisting families with children facing mental health challenges. Your responsibilities include offering support, coaching, and resources to help families navigate these difficulties effectively.
 

Key Responsibilities:​​

  • Guiding Light: Assist and coach families to increase their knowledge and awareness of the child’s needs, illuminating the path toward understanding and nurturing familial bonds.

  • Building Bridges: Help families build helpful relationships with child and family team members, fostering connections that strengthen support networks and empower growth.

  • Empowering Resources: Provide helpful materials such as videos, books, articles, or internet addresses, offering a treasure trove of resources to enrich and empower families on their journey.

  • Strength in Unity: Offer moral support during crises and critical periods, standing alongside families as a pillar of strength and resilience in times of need.

  • Preparing Together: Assist families with meeting preparations, ensuring they feel supported and equipped to navigate important milestones and appointments.

  • Customized Care: Develop individualized service plans that address family needs, tailoring support to the unique circumstances and aspirations of each family unit.

  • Continuity of Care: Participate in staffing to ensure continuity of care, collaborating closely with the treatment team to provide seamless support and coordination.

  • Navigating Beyond: Make or assist in outside referrals for issues beyond the treatment milieu, extending a guiding hand to connect families with additional resources and support networks.

  • First Impressions Matter: Assist with the intake process, completing initial paperwork and explaining the program concept, laying the foundation for a journey of healing and growth with warmth and clarity.

  • Professional Representation: Represent the agency in a professional manner, embodying integrity and dedication in every interaction and endeavor.

  • Thorough Documentation: Document all services provided in accordance with DMH/CARF Standards, ensuring transparency and accountability in delivering high-quality care.

  • A Beacon of Calm: Provide crisis intervention as necessary, offering a steady presence of reassurance and support in moments of turmoil.

  • Educating Together: Facilitate group education as scheduled, fostering learning and connection among families in a nurturing and supportive environment.

  • Commitment to Growth: Obtain trainings to assist in professional development, meeting 36 hours every 2 years, demonstrating a commitment to continuous learning and improvement in service delivery.

Experience and Education Qualifications:

  • Must self-identify as a present or former primary consumer of mental health services.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Completion of the State-approved FSP training program.

  • Job commitment from a mental health agency.

  • Strong knowledge of case management and rehabilitation methods.

  • Ability to build trust and rapport with families facing mental health challenges.

  • Excellent communication skills—both verbal and written.

  • Problem-solving mindset and ability to evaluate services for improvement.

  • Familiarity with mental health training techniques and practices.
