Job Description Summary:


 

Evaluates neonatal and pediatric patients’ developmental and functional status as a result of preterm birth, surgery or disease. Administers treatment, fabricates, or recommends adaptive equipment and splints, documents evaluation results and patient progress, and provides patient and family education.

Essential Functions:

  • Evaluates patients with varied diagnoses to determine developmental and functional status using standardized measures or clinical observations. Identifies patient’s strengths and deficits, establishes goals, and develops an individualized treatment plan.
  • Develops and administers therapeutic treatment that provides optimal development, function, and independence. Utilizes developmental activities, modalities, and other treatment techniques to meet specific needs and achieve goals. Observes progress and modifies treatment plan accordingly.
  • Fabricates, recommends, or provides adaptive equipment, splints, or casts to maintain functional body joint positions, restrict muscle contractures, prevent deformities, and improve function or mobility. Fits and instructs on use.
  • Educates on treatment goals and therapy plan. Instructs on therapeutic activities to follow at home, documents, and evaluates ongoing compliance and understanding.
  • Documents patient’s evaluation results, objective status, progress towards goals, treatment plan, and recommendations compliantly. Utilizes appropriate computerized or standardized methods.
  • Communicates status and collaborates as needed. Recommends and secures referrals to community agencies to ensure continuity of care.
  • Conducts formal and informal education for hospital staff, students and community. Delegates to students from accredited programs, licensed physical therapist assistants, and unlicensed personnel, supervising care provided. Attends continuing education programs and participates in departmental in-service training programs to enhance professional development.

Education Requirement:

Master’s degree in physical therapy, required.

Licensure Requirement:

Licensed as a physical therapist by the State of Ohio.

Certifications:

  • Pediatric Residency completion and/or certification in Pediatrics Specialization (PCS), required. 
  • Certification by the American Physical Therapy Association, required.
