Directs activities of support services personnel to provide pediatric technical expertise in specimen collection and processing. Oversees daily clerical test order management and reports distribution activities. Perform clinical laboratory duties and responsibilities and works effectively with others to meet patient needs. Actively promotes a lean work culture by performing team member duties to encourage consistent use of lean principles and processes, including continually seeking work process improvements.
Experience
- 2 years of experience in computers
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science or 5 years of experience in a clinical laboratory
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
Certification Summary
- No professional certifications required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of laboratory specimen collection/processing procedures, shipping, turnaround times, and specialty research testing
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Enthusiasm and willingness to work with others
- Able to perform multiple, concurrent tasks in a frequently stressful environment
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to handle difficult specimen problem situations

Job Responsibilities
- Demonstrates expert technical and clinical knowledge and functions as a resource for staff in the collection and processing of laboratory specimens, test order management, and report distribution.
- Interacts with other healthcare workers to provide information and identify, develop, and implement strategies that result in improved pre- and post-analytical processes.
- Actively promotes a lean culture by performing duties to promote an understanding and consistent use of lean principals and processes.
- Performs duties, makes decisions, takes actions, and continually strives to improve work processes using an awareness of how work performed is valued by the customer.
- Performs daily referral processing and quality assurance and monitors expected turnaround times.
- Follows departmental and system policies and procedures, including those pertaining to compliance and safety.
- Recognizes necessity of taking ownership of own motivation, morale, performance, and professional development.
- Strives for behavior consistent with being committed to the lab’s and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta's mission, goals, and values.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
