We are currently looking for an experienced Mechanic to perform tasks related to the maintenance and repair of trucks, trailers and heavy construction equipment that support our construction operations in the Knoxville, TN area and/or southeastern region of the United States.   The company seeks talented candidates with an ability to perform preventive maintenance, perform diagnostic tests to find faults, analyzing diagnostic test results and repairing, replacing engine, steering, transmission, braking, or lighting system components.

We are currently offering a limited sign-on bonus of $2,000 for new hires without a CDL license if they meet the criteria outlined in our sign-on bonus program.  Starting pay is $28.00 - $32.00 per hour depending on experience.

What You Will Do:

  • Performing preventive maintenance on trucks, trailers, and construction equipment
  • Schedule the repairs and maintenance of equipment
  • Maintain detailed records of serviced vehicles and interact with field supervision daily.
  • Adhering to an inspection procedure checklist.
  • Maintaining a parts inventory
  • Ensuring the cleanliness of the shop
  • Running diagnostic tests on vehicles
  • Analyzing diagnostic test results
  • Replacing vehicle engines, steering mechanisms, transmissions and braking systems.
  • Checking vehicle lighting systems
  • Test driving vehicles to gauge performance 
  • Perform other duties as assigned including but not limited to moving machines, off-loading equipment, running errands and closing shop/yard

  • Ability to travel extensively 100% of the time each week, which could have you away from home for 2-3 weeks at a time
  • Ability to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, crouch, bend, reach, kneel, crawl, stretch, use hands to handle objects, tools or controls; talk and hear without visual cues, lift push, and pull up to 75 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Degree or diploma in mechanical or automotive engineering; ASE Diesel Certification advantageous
  • Has a working knowledge of the federal motor carrier safety regulations
  • PUCC will also consider candidates who has served in the United States Military or have an equivalent graduation from a trade school that specializes in engine or shop mechanics
  • One (1) year plus proven experience performing preventive maintenance on trucks and heavy equipment, hydraulic systems
  • Working knowledge of diesel and as engines and hydraulic systems
  • Proficient with maintenance and repair tools
  • Good IT and knowledgeable in reading diagnostic codes
  • Able to diagnose complex issues
  • Identify, locate and diagnose the components of truck brake systems, including hydraulic and air brake systems
  • Possess own hand tools
