Overall Purpose: Overall Purpose: Directs teams of IT auditors to provide independent and objective oversight of assurance and consulting activity designed to add value and improve operations across AT&T business units with a focus on IT and Cyber. You will drive visibility into cyber, IT, and operational risks while collaborating closely with executive leadership, including the CIO, CTO, and CISO organizations. This is a hands-on leadership role suited for an experienced technology risk professional who thrives at the intersection of business enablement and technology assurance.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Directs the design and implementation of IT audit procedures throughout the IT audit team.
  • Uses knowledge of IT frameworks and standards to evaluate complex technical issues and business processes.
  • Ensures audits of corporate systems; records; and processes are evaluated against established internal and/or external authoritative sources.
  • Trains new staff in standard procedures.
  • Establishes IT audit objectives and assignments and delegates assignments to subordinate managers.
  • Involved in developing, modifying and executing company policies which affect immediate IT operations and may also have company-wide effect.
  • Regularly interacts with technology department senior management or executives on matters concerning operational and technological risk to the enterprise or risk to the engagements.
  • Requires expert knowledge of IT governance and security frameworks (e.g., ITIL, NIST CSF, NIST 800-53, ISO), control frameworks (COBIT, COSO), and methodologies.
  • Requires the ability to change the thinking of, or gain acceptance of, others in sensitive situations.
  • Manages activities of two or more sections or departments through subordinate managers who exercise full supervision in terms of costs, methods and employees.


Job Contribution: Designs and executes strategies that support the overarching philosophy of the organization. Oversees departmental programs and is often hands-on with the design and implementation of applicable strategies. Typically leads large teams, supervising supervisors as well as career-level staff within the organization. Responsible for influencing decisions regarding the hiring, firing, disciplinary action, promotional activity, and pay decisions for subordinates.

Experience: Typically requires 10 or more years of experience and at least two years of management responsibility


Education: Bachelors or Advanced degree preferred. Understanding of NIST, ISO, and other Relevant Standards Required.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Background: Strong preference for experience from Big 4 firms (Deloitte, PwC, EY, KPMG) or equivalent top-tier consulting environments, with exposure to large enterprise clients.
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of IT governance, cybersecurity risk, data privacy, cloud infrastructure, and system control testing.
  • Certifications: CISA required or in progress; CISSP, CISM, CRISC, or CPA preferred.
  • People Developer: Passionate about building teams, mentoring staff, and developing future leaders in audit and technology risk.

Our Director-Audit earns between $174,100 - $261,100 USD Annual. Not to mention all the other amazing rewards that working at AT&T offers. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.
