Special Term Contract, Full-Time Faculty – Reading

School of Language & Literature

Bucks County Community College invites applications for a Full-Time Special Term Faculty position in Reading (Instructor/Assistant Professor level), beginning Spring 2026. We are seeking a dedicated and student-centered educator to teach all levels of Reading and College Success courses and to assist with the coordination of Reading and Developmental Education. Further duties include, but are not limited to, student placement, curriculum development, advising Reading students outside faculty load, assessment, data entry, and coordination across the college to support students (see description below).

The credit load for full time faculty hired to teach Developmental education courses is 15 credits per Fall and Spring semesters. At least three (3) credits will be specifically and exclusively for work with students beyond scheduled class time and the standard five office hours. These hours may include, but are not limited to, additional office hours, advising students after the faculty advising period, attending evening Walk-in Events for registration, completing new student intake, and one-on-one work with students.

Primary Functions

  • Teach courses in Developmental Reading and Student Success.

  • Advise Reading Level 1 students and other students as applicable.

  • Prepare students for the progression of the college composition and reading curriculum.

  • Participate in collaborative revision of course curriculum.

  • Assist Coordinator with varied duties, inclusive of monitoring semester course spreadsheets and semester scheduling.

  • Keep current in best practices through active participation with professional organizations, both regionally and nationally.

Secondary Functions

  • Attend professional development opportunities.

  • Serve on academic committees.

  • Contribute to the department and college.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters in Reading or highly related field; experience teaching and supporting developmental reading education and AESL students; strong communication skills; ability to collaborate with support services.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Community college teaching experience.

  • Demonstrated commitment to student success.

  • Developmental education advising experience.

  • Experience with utilizing instructional technologies.

  • Experience with curriculum development.

  • Knowledge of outcomes-based assessment.

  • Experience with Workday or other ERP system

Full-Time Special Term Contract Additional Responsibilities (3 credits minimum)

Assists the Reading and Development Education Coordinator with advising Read Level 1 students and other students as applicable; developing and revising READ and College Success curriculum; advising during walk-in registration events at Newtown, LBC, UBC, and online as scheduled and applicable; advising for the Summer Bridge Program; entering data into tracking sheets, such as first-day and exit screening scores; meeting weekly with the Reading and Developmental Education Coordinator; and any additional related tasks, as needed.

Full-Time Special Term Contract responsibilities are mainly fulfilled through in-person work scheduled at the Newtown Campus. Some responsibilities may be fulfilled through remote work at the discretion of the dean. Due to walk-in advising and registration schedules, responsibilities may be required outside of nine-month contract dates.

This position requires availability to teach at all campuses and through all modalities. The position will remain open until filled.
