Area of Focus: Food Establishment Inspections and Water Quality
The Opportunity:
Under general supervision of a Bureau Director – Environmental Health, independently conducts sanitation inspections of eating establishments, commercial facilities, and public buildings. Inspects onsite sewage disposal and water systems to determine compliance with ordinances and laws designed to protect the health and safety of the public. Responds to and investigates complaints related to public health. Conducts public education training related to environmental health. May be assigned to work in multiple functional areas or exclusively to one, as determined by the Division Director – Environmental Health.

Environmental Health Scientist I – 724
Environmental Health Technician - 722
Starting Pay:
726 - $35.35 - $40.61
724 - $30.74 - $35.35
722 - $26.74 – $30.74
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Job Qualifications – Environmental Health Scientist II
1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university that includes thirty (30) credit hours in the natural sciences or a closely related field.
2. Three (3) years of experience as a licensed Environmental Health Scientist.
Job Qualifications – Environmental Health Scientist I
1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university that includes thirty (30) credit hours in the natural sciences or a closely related field.
2. One (1) year of related work experience.
Job Qualifications – Environmental Health Technician:
1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university that includes thirty (30) credit hours in the natural sciences or a closely related field.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
1. Applicants must be licensed through the State of Utah as an Environmental Health Scientist.
2. Applicants must obtain and maintain certifications in an environmental health field and/or certifications applicable to position.
1. Incumbent must obtain, and thereafter maintain, licensure through the State of Utah as an Environmental Health Scientist during the probationary period for new hires or the trial period for promoted County employees.
