The Utah County Sheriff’s Department is the law enforcement agency in the county and is responsible for the preservation of the peace. The Sheriff and deputies make arrests, oversee the courts and the County Correctional Facility, and prepare legal documents for the Sheriff’s sale.

The Opportunity:
Under the general supervision of the Evidence and Crime Lab Supervisor, performs specialized clerical and routine technical work relating to securing, storing, and disposing of seized evidence and property according to federal law, state law, and department procedures.
Starting Pay: Grade 719 Step A $21.72 to Step G $24.95 (based on education and experience)
Schedule: Monday- Friday (occasional evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required as job duties demand)
Under the direction of the Evidence and Crime Scene Supervisor, the Evidence Custodian performs specialized clerical and technical work involving the receipt, storage, security, auditing, and lawful disposition of property and evidence. This position plays a vital role in maintaining the chain of custody and supporting investigative and court procedures.
Receive, record, sort, and secure property brought into the UCSO evidence room
Retrieve and release evidence at satellite units
Ensure all evidence is properly packaged and documented
Prepare, organize, and transport evidence for analysis at the state crime lab
Maintain the security and integrity of all evidence; testify in court as needed
Determine lawful disposition of property and manage releases, transfers, and auctions
Conduct routine audits and inventories
Maintain supplies and keep booking areas stocked
Provide excellent customer service to deputies, the public, and other agencies
Train deputies on evidence handling procedures
May assist with gathering, packaging, and documenting evidence at crime scenes
High School diploma or equivalent
Two (2) years of clerical and/or technical experience supporting law enforcement or related work
Must be at least 21 years old by start date
Must possess a valid driver’s license (Utah license required within 60 days)
Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
Experience with Spillman, UCJIS, and court exchange systems
IAPE certification as Property & Evidence Custodian
