ERM is seeking a Managing Technical Consultant, Archaeologist to join our North America Cultural Heritage & Preservation (NA/CHP) service line. This leadership role offers the opportunity to influence major projects, mentor talented professionals, and deliver innovative solutions that protect cultural resources across the Rocky Mountain region.

This is a full-time, salary-based position based in our Denver office, with flexibility for remote work. Ideal candidates are local to Colorado, deeply familiar with regional regulatory processes, and passionate about advancing cultural heritage management.

  • Direct and oversee archaeological investigations, evaluations, and treatment plans for NRHP-eligible properties.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with regulatory agencies, clients, and stakeholders.

What You’ll Bring

Required

  • Master’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field. Or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in cultural resource management, including inventory, survey, testing, and/or data recovery.

  • At least 2 years supervising projects and staff, with proven report-writing expertise.

  • Strong knowledge of Rocky Mountain prehistory and federal/state preservation laws.

  • Ability to secure archaeological survey or excavation permit from OSAC.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite).

  • Ability to travel frequently and perform physically demanding fieldwork (up to 10 miles/day, lifting 50 lbs.).

  • Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area.  

  • This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

Preferred

  • Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA).

  • Eligibility for BLM cultural resources use permits.

  • Experience in Wyoming and Utah.

  • Familiarity with mapping equipment (GPS, total station) and lab processing.

  • Strong client-facing skills and business development experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute literature reviews, field inventories, and NRHP evaluations.

  • Prepare cultural resource documentation for compliance with NHPA Section 106, NEPA, and state regulations.

  • Supervise field teams and ensure quality standards in technical deliverables.

  • Engage with SHPOs and regulatory agencies to navigate permitting and compliance.

  • Collaborate across ERM practice areas to deliver integrated solutions.

  • Communicate regularly with clients and contribute to proposal development.

  • Represent ERM at meetings and industry forums to strengthen our market presence.

For the Managing Technical Consultant, Archaeologist position, the anticipated annual base pay is $87,042 – $109,282 (USD). Actual pay will depend on factors such as education, experience, skills, location, performance, and business needs. In some cases, pay may fall outside this range. This role may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/flex force employees are not bonus eligible).
