Summary

The Assistant Athletic Trainer position is an entry level appointment for Athletic Training service operations in health care for student-athletes in the NCAA Division II program for 12 sports teams. The position assists  the Head Athletic Trainer with all duties. The position also serves as a clinical instructor for undergraduate students in the CAATE Accredited B.S. degree program in Athletic Training.

This is a 11-month, In-person position.

Essential Functions

Health Care Provider Services:

  • Primary evaluation of athletic injuries

  • Formulate a clinical diagnosis by interpreting the signs and symptoms

  • Referral of injured athletes to appropriate physician

  • Administer therapeutic exercises and modalities to treat injuries

  • Education of athletes and coaches to prevent injuries

  • Apply appropriate immediate and emergency care procedures/proper activation of Emergency Action Plan

Medical Records and Documentation:

  • Pre-participation physicals on file for all athletes

  • Completed injury reports

  • HIPAA compliant

  • Rehab tracking forms

  • Knowledge of injury tracking software

Clinical Supervision of Undergraduate Athletic Training Students:

  • Approved Clinical Instructor for the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education [CAATE] accredited program

  • Supervise students while performing injury evaluation, application of rehab protocols and modalities in accordance with CAATE and Board of Certification regulations

  • Mentor students on injury evaluation, taping applications, rehab techniques, emergency care, injury pathologies

Risk Management:

  • Maintain current emergency action plan

  • Educate individuals about appropriate use of equipment

  • Monitor environmental conditions to facilitate safety

Leadership and Management Skills:

  • Maintain up-to-date sport schedules to ensure appropriate medical coverage

  • Attend regular staff meetings to ensure continuity of care and collaboration of injuries

Personal Effectiveness:

  • Articulate expectations and goals of students and graduate assistant athletic trainers

  • Be able to adapt to an ever-changing schedule and maintain appropriate priorities

  • Take initiative to better oneself as a clinician and to better the athletic training department

  • Maintain open lines of communication and availability with coaches and administrators

  • Enhance depth of knowledge by attending symposiums and continual learning over time and maintaining professional credentials

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred

  • 1 - 3 years relevant work experience required

  • A valid Driver's License is required.

  • BOC certification and holding, or being eligible for Florida state licensure, is required.

  • Basic experience with MS Office - Sportsware - BIODEX or related systems
