An introduction to ancient and medieval art history through the chronological study of key works of visual culture throughout the world, from cave paintings to European cathedrals and Middle Eastern mosques, from the Venus de Milo to the Seated Buddha, and from Egyptian and Maya pyramids to Buddhist stupas. Emphasis will be placed on the shift from prehistoric societies to urban cultures, the rapid development of technical and aesthetic expertise expressed in local traditions, and the emergence of the world's religions and their impact upon art.
Anticipated start date: Fall 2026
Deliver classroom material in a clear and effective manner.
Create a unified, comprehensive syllabus in accordance with the College of Arts & Sciences format.
Create a course Canvas site as per the College of Arts & Sciences.
Create, administer, and evaluate exams, papers, and/or projects.
One office hour per class to address student questions and/or issues.
An MFA in Visual Arts or a related field is required.
Demonstrates proficiency with digital presentation tools, learning management systems, and online research databases to deliver engaging lectures, organize course materials, and support student learning in World Art History.
Operates classroom and audiovisual equipment—such as projectors, document cameras, and presentation systems—to effectively display and discuss artworks in a lecture setting.
Communicates complex art historical ideas clearly and engagingly through lectures, discussions, and written feedback, helping students develop their own critical thinking and expression.
