Essential Functions and Responsibilities
1. As Essential Personnel you are expected to be available in the event of school closings, delays, shutdowns and any emergencies including clean up required because of severe weather incidents. Maintenance personnel are essential to the overall success of Commencement (May) and Orientation and Move-in (August) weekend events and special events that are scheduled in facilities throughout the year and must be available to work scheduled and unscheduled hours as emergency needs arise.
2. Reports to work at the required time and performs duties as assigned by the Cabinet Shop Supervisor.
3. Assists with the set up and operation variety of woodworking machines and uses various hand tools to fabricate and repair wooden cabinets and high grade furniture.
4. Assists with marking outline or dimensions of parts on paper or lumber stock, according to blue print or drawing specifications. Assists with set up and operation of wood working machines, such as power saws, jointer, mortiser, tenoner, molder, and shaper, to cut and shape parts from wood stock.
5. Assists with trimming component parts of joints to ensure snug fit, using hand tools, such as planes, chisels, or wood files.
6. Assists with boring holes for insertion of screws or dowels by hand or using boring machine.
7. Assists with gluing, fitting, and clamping parts and subassemblies together to form complete unit, using clamps or clamping machine.
8. Drives nails or other fasteners into joints at designated places to reinforce joints.
9. Sands and scrapes surfaces and joints of articles to prepare articles for finishing.
10. Assists with dipping, brushing, or spraying assembled articles with protective or decorative materials, such as stain, varnish, or paint.
11. Assist with installing hardware, such as hinge, catches, and drawer pulls.
12. Follows all safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
13. Must provide own hand tools to perform and complete trade related tasks.
14. Relies on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals.
15. Performs other duties as assigned.
16. Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services and leading industry performance benchmarks.
17. Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.
Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies
This position requires a high school diploma or GED. Minimum of 1+ years of related experience required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in the Cabinetmaker trade. Must be able to understand and follow directions, and work under limited Supervision. Must be able to work well with the public and co-workers and present a positive attitude. Clean and professional appearance. Must be courteous, detailed oriented. self-motivated, diligent, trustworthy, possess strong organizational skills and well-developed communication skills. Must be able to lift up to 75+ pounds and perform duties of the Cabinetmaker trade in typical Virginia Climate. This position might require the use of and operation of aerial lifts or be willing and able to obtain aerial lift certifications, operate, and work from various aerial lifts and heights. Desire to work with a team to accomplish goals. Urgency to grow and improve. Certifications obtained while employed by Liberty University at the expense of the employer will be reimbursed back to the University upon voluntary termination (resignation) for the first 12 months after acquiring it. Must be able to work on weekends, holidays, and flexible daily/evening hours. Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
