Develops, implements, and maintains infection control and prevention programs for the healthcare system.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act in accordance with the established mission, vision, and values.
  • Abide by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Maintain effective communication and professional working relationships with patients/clients and their representatives, team members, contractors, physicians, peers, outside agencies, and the public.
  • Perform acts that are within the scope of practice as defined by the applicable licensing board.
  • Educate patients and staff on practices and techniques meant to reduce the spread of infectious diseases.
  • Ensure that patient care or other activities comply with OSHA, Public Health, or CDC regulations.
  • Monitor staff and patient illness and report outbreaks to appropriate authorities.
  • Apply epidemiologic principles and statistical methods, including risk stratification, to identify target populations, analyze trends and risk factors, and design and evaluate prevention and control strategies.
  • Assess, monitor, and report on environmental risk factors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Education and Experience

  • Graduate of accredited RN program.
  • 1-3 years of clinical RN experience.

Required License/Certifications/Registrations:

  • Current BLS/CPR card from approved provider within 30 days of hire or by the end of orientation, whichever comes first.
  • Registered Nurse credentialed from the Kansas Board of Nursing or a compact state.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Infection control experience or additional course work in the spread of infections in healthcare settings.

Preferred License/Certifications/Registrations:

  • Industry recognized certification for Infection Control.
  • Member in good standing with APIC.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

  • Basic computer skills.
  • Multi-tasking and prioritization skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively via verbal and written methods.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Light Work: Occasionally exerting up to 25 lbs - frequently exerting up to 10 lbs. 11-25% of the day may be standing or walking.
