The Patient Safety Attendant is responsible for providing continuous observation and monitoring for high-risk patients.

- Complete timely and accurate documentation as per Health System/affiliate policy.
- Maintain continuous visual observation of assigned patient(s).
- Monitor the environment, patient behaviors, mood changes and interactions with staff, family, or other patients. Promptly report any concerns to the clinical team.
- Recognize signs of agitations, aggression, or distress in patients, and implement appropriate de-escalation techniques and interventions.
- Intervene in safety incidents when necessary.
- Assist with the implementation of safety protocols and procedures as directed by the clinical and security teams.
- Participate in safety training sessions as they relate to trauma, mental health first aid, and emergency preparedness.
- Act in accordance with the established mission, vision, and values.
- Abide by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Maintain effective communication and professional working relationships with patients/clients and their representatives, team members, contractors, physicians, peers, outside agencies, and the public.

Minimum Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience
Required License/Certifications/Registrations
- Current BLS/CPR card from approved provider within 30 days of hire or by the end of orientation, whichever comes first.

- Previous experience in law enforcement, behavior health or psychiatric setting.
Preferred License/Certifications/Registrations
- Certification as a CNA, EMT, or HHA in the state of Kansas
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Basic computer skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology, mental health disorders, and safety protocols.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
- Possess compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.
