In order to participate in Berklee Student Employment, a student must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.

  • Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.

  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).

  • Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable.

  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.

  • Federal Work Study student may apply.

  • In good disciplinary standing.

  • Must be located in the U.S.

Boston City Singers (BCS) Tutors work alongside the BCS teachers in almost all aspects of instruction that are available to young singers through the City Singers programming.

Job Duties:

Boston City Singers Tutors will work with supervising faculty in teaching a wide range of courses and skills including: Theory, Dalcroze, Choral Rehearsals, Voice Lessons, Audition Preparation, Drumming, Musicianship, and Sectional Rehearsals. This job is off campus and requires travel in the Boston Metro.

Skills and Knowledge:

Ability to teach the above listed skills and courses. Piano skills are very helpful, as are conducting skills, strong rhythmic skills, strong understanding of theory and how to convey that content to young musicians; strong musicianship skills and ability to teach them to students at a range of ages and levels.

 

This position is for Graduate Vocal Pedagogy MFA or MM majors currently enrolled at the conservatory. 

Skills Learned:

Boston City Singers tutors learn a range of approaches to convey a wide range of material content to students whose learning styles and abilities to remain engaged will be diverse. Working with the highly skilled and experienced teachers of Boston City Singers they will gain new teaching skills as well as gain insight into how to manage, sustain and organize a program in line with the mission of that program.
