Candidate will conduct research in ichthyology with the Curator of Fishes at the LSUMNS including conducting research on systematics, population genetics, as well as morphological and taxonomic investigations (including the description of new species to science). Candidate will supervise and train undergraduates and graduate students in lab techniques (e.g., PCR).
Job Responsibilities:
100%- Conduct research on a semi-independent basis. Prepare and publish scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Curator of Fishes. Attend, contribute, and where necessary lead relevant meetings. Plan and develop research methods and techniques within the framework of the research program, such as phylogenomics, transcriptomics, comparative and population genomics, target capture, and other high-throughput sequencing methods. Bring new expertise to the research program. Undertake any other duties relevant to the program of research, including field work. Collaborate with research colleagues and support staff internally and develop appropriate external contacts relevant to the project and future funding opportunities. Be an active member of LSUMNS’s vibrant academic community by attending seminars, participating in journal clubs, etc.
Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Biology or related discipline; Expertise in evolutionary biology and computational biology; experience with next-generation molecular methods, such as whole-genome sequencing, target capture, and other genomic tools; experience in ichthyology and taxonomy particularly in the description of new species; strong publication record; and a record of and interest in continuing mentorship and outreach.
