Job Summary:
The service climatologist (SC) is the first direct contact between the Louisiana Office of State Climatology (LOSC) staff and users from the academic, public, and private sectors. The candidate must have a thorough understanding of weather and climate issues at the local and regional level and have solid communication skills to assist the user(s) in defining the appropriate solutions for information and data needs.
Job Responsibilities:
55% Act as the primary liaison between the Louisiana Office of State Climatology (LOSC) and stakeholders from academia, the public sector, and private industry, leveraging advanced expertise to guide users in identifying and implementing optimal solutions for their data and information requirements.
25% Lead the LOSC's initiatives in developing and disseminating information through social media, enhancing the organization's outreach efforts. Additionally, oversee the production and publication of regular weather and climate summaries as directed by the State Climatologist.
15% Enhance the accessibility of weather and climate information for the State of Louisiana, collaborate closely with NOAA professionals, and provide expert insights for the development of new data products and tools based on client requests and professional experience.
5% Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Meteorology/Atmospheric Sciences or Environmental Sciences with a Weather/Climate Concentration or related field and six years of experience.
Degree Substitute: A master's degree and two years related or a terminal degree (Ph.D) in a related field.
