Applicants are sought for a postdoctoral researcher or senior postdoctoral position at Louisiana State University to work in the area of time-domain astrophysics, with a focus on supernovae and gamma-ray bursts. The researcher will work in Professor Eric Burns's group, whose focus ranges among time domain astronomy, development of future high-energy space-based missions, and software and theoretical development to support these efforts. We anticipate the position will have an initial appointment period of 2 years. Robust funding for travel and other needs is available.
Responsibilities: The postdoc will contribute to the work of the InterPlanetary Network, as well as an integrated multiwavelength transient discovery and classification machine centered on Rubin. This includes development of software to support these efforts, scientific analysis of relevance to these systems, as well as assisting observational results from the discoveries enabled by these efforts. The ideal candidate will pursue research which integrates data from multiple facilities and utilizes multiphysics theory and simulation for robust interdisciplinary results. The postdoc is expected to regularly present their research, submit papers to peer reviewed journals, assist in writing proposals for funding and telescope time, engage with the larger group including assist with mentoring of students, and participate in wider department activities. Senior Postdoctoral will lead observational results, write proposals and mentor students.
Minimum qualifications: (Both) PhD in astrophysics or related field. (Senior level) 3 years of related experience.
Preferred qualifications: Experience in software development, time-domain science, transient reporting, and interdisciplinary analysis.
