At the forefront of medical discovery as it relates to understanding the causes of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer and dementia, Pennington Biomedical Research Center is a campus of Louisiana State University and conducts basic, clinical and population research. The Center includes Basic Science, Clinical Research, and Population and Public Health, enabling both focused research and translational science. Research at Pennington Biomedical is supported broadly by multiple NIH Research Centers, and includes approximately 65 faculty and 20 postdoctoral fellows who comprise a network of 44 laboratories and 13 highly specialized core service facilities. Pennington Biomedical is located within state-of-the-art research facilities on a 222-acre campus in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a world-renowned academic research institute of Louisiana State University, is seeking an Exercise Testing Specialist within the Exercise Testing Core.
The exercise testing specialist with support the excercise protocol within clinical research activities. This role involves assisting with the implementation of study protocols, conducting participant assessments, and managing key operational tasks to ensure the success of clinical trials. The position offers an excellent opportunity to develop practical skills in research coordination and exercise science while contributing to high-quality, evidence-based studies.
Major Responsibilities
Support the setup, supervision, and execution of study-specific exercise testing protocols, ensuring adherence to research standards and participant safety.
Perform routine calibration and maintenance of exercise testing equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability of data collection.
Ensure all testing areas, equipment, and supplies are ready for scheduled participant visits in accordance with study protocols.
Complete participant visits by obtaining protocol-specific measurements and exercise testing data, following established procedures.
Provide clear instructions and guidance during testing sessions, addressing participant questions and ensuring a positive experience.
Assist with multiple aspects of trial management, including processing documentation, coordinating meetings, supporting project workflows, and maintaining compliance with study timelines.
Enter clinical trial data into electronic data capture systems accurately and promptly, and perform quality checks to maintain data integrity.
Monitor and maintain study-specific inventory, ensuring all materials meet protocol requirements and are available when needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in kinesilogy, exercise physiology, exercise science, or related field.
1–2 years of experience in a clinical research or exercise testing environment (such as internships or part-time work).
Basic understanding of exercise testing protocols and physiological measurements.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to follow protocols and maintain compliance with regulatory standards.
Effective verbal and written communication skills for participant interaction and team collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications
2 or more years of experience in an exercise setting, such as a fitness center, sports performance lab, or clinical exercise facility.
Hands-on experience conducting exercise tests (e.g., VO₂ max, treadmill or cycle ergometer protocols) or collecting physiological data.
Working and communicating with aging populations, populations with chronic illness, and/or pediatric populations.
Familiarity with calibration and maintenance of exercise testing equipment.
Experience with electronic data capture systems and basic data entry.
Previous involvement in clinical trials or research projects.

The approved hiring range for the position is $40,000 - $55,000. The final salary offer will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications and relevant experience.
