The Research Assistant Professor will lead and support research focused on electric field–guided assembly of micro- and nanoparticles to design advanced materials. The role involves developing experimental studies of particle organization under non-equilibrium conditions and collaborating on theoretical modeling with partners at PNNL. The successful candidate will give instruction on laboratory practices in chemical engineering and materials science, mentor graduate and undergraduate researchers, contribute to proposal development, and publish and present research outcomes in high-impact venues.
80% Develop and lead independent and collaborative research projects aimed at uncovering the mechanistic pathways of particle organization under non-equilibrium conditions, using experimental techniques such as dynamic light scattering, small-angle X-ray scattering, and electron microscopy, coupled with theoretical modeling in collaboration with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL).
20% Contribute to classroom teaching in chemical engineering and materials science, offering courses that integrate fundamental colloid and interfacial science with emerging topics in particle assembly, nanomaterials, and energy-efficient synthesis. The Research Assistant Professor will also mentor graduate and undergraduate students, contribute to proposal development, and disseminate findings through high-impact publications and conference presentations.
