The Assistant Director of Advising reports to the Executive Director of Library & Student Support Services and is responsible for overseeing advising practices within the Student Success Center while providing guidance and training to all advisors at LSUE. The purpose of this position is to promote holistic student success by ensuring the consistent use of best practices in academic advising, career and academic coaching, and student support. Working as part of a collaborative team, the Assistant Director helps create an effective, student-centered advising environment that enhances retention, progression, and completion.
30% Assist students in choosing the appropriate program and/or major and schedule in of courses; recommend courses of action for students seeking academic guidance; maintain student advising records; and uphold the policies and procedures of the
University as related to advisory duties.
20% Serve as Coordinator of Pathways to Success. Monitor academic and absence alert intervention and reporting, including student outreach and faculty follow-up. Prepare and deliver presentations centering on academic programs and student success based on best practices to various groups, including prospective students, parents, orientation attendees, and faculty/staff.
20% Supervise and mentor, provide guidance and support for, develop training
materials and resources for, and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Student Success Center advising team to ensure efficient and effective advising services
for students.
15% Facilitate initial advising training for professional and faculty advisors. Provide advising support for professional and faculty advisors through ongoing training workshops and communication of advising policies and best practices.
10% Work with the Executive Director of Student Success to analyze student data to identify
trends, evaluate the effectiveness of advising programs, and develop and implement strategic plans for improvement of advising services. Monitor ongoing registration metrics and provide data to Executive Director during peak advising times. Maintain strong communication channels with students, faculty, and other stakeholders.
5% Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree
1 year experience - Professional academic advising experience in a college or university setting.
Experience with assessment or data reporting.
Demonstrated experience with leadership responsibilities, such as mentoring advisors, coordinating programs.
$45,000.00-$55,000.00
