Member Solutions Special Assets Administrator

ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:

The Member Solutions Special Assets Administrator is responsible for the management of a substantial portfolio of business secured, unsecured loans and credit cards, both performing and non-performing, including delinquent, impaired and/or loans deemed Troubled Debt Restructures (TDRs) in an effort to reduce VyStar Credit Union’s exposure to financial loss. Duties of managing the business loan portfolio will involve the incumbent taking proactive steps and actions to promote financial soundness throughout the business loans portfolio through awareness, detailed activities, active engagement, forward thinking and in-depth knowledge of policies, procedures, and processes. This will include monitoring payment history and transactions, engaging and negotiating with members and legal counsel to assist in collections, and liquidating owned collateral. This position will be responsible for the collection, recovery and/or rehabilitation of assigned business problem loans and other assets owned by the credit union. As part of the portfolio management responsibilities, the incumbent will manage processes including monitoring maturing loans status and related actions, post-close business loan review and business loan portfolio compliance related activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact with past due borrowers of small business, commercial non real estate, and commercial real estate loans

  • Develop, recommend, and implement repayment strategies with borrowers to maximize recovery and reduce losses within the business loan portfolio.

  • Actively contributes and supports achievement of departmental goals by maintaining business loan portfolio delinquency and maturing loan ratios ratio within established guidelines.

  • Work closely with the Asset & Loss Mitigation Team regarding all Bankruptcy functions including but not limited to petitions, claims, motions, affidavits, and schedules.

  • Work as a liaison between members, business lenders, business credit administration personnel and business loan servicing personnel to efficiently manage the maturing loan process, including collection of the appropriate financial data and information required for the loan application process.

  • Work closely with Commercial Services department when actively pursuing collection of past due real estate taxes while analyzing escrow requirements and make recommendations for any possible corrective actions required.

  • Interact with attorneys and real estate professionals to successfully obtain and liquidate VyStar Credit Union owned commercial properties (OREO).

  • Communicate with commercial and consumer debtors via telephone and written correspondence to attempt to bring resolution to delinquent accounts.

  • Provides skip tracing support to repossession agents to expedite the recovery of collateral.

  • Assist with liquidation of commercial real estate, vehicles and all other assets secured by the loan.

  • Review and decision loan deferments, workout loans and forbearances based on guidelines established in the applicable procedures.

  • Ensures department standards, policies and procedures are adhered to regarding activity related to hardship and Troubled Debt Restructure requests.

  • Ensure loan modification, hardship requests & TDRs meet all applicable regulatory compliance requirements.

  • Prepare and present to management well written comprehensive strategies to ensure optimal loss mitigation to the credit union while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Evaluate and implement necessary actions to secure and protect VyStar Credit Union against loss; Assist with reviewing and preparing loan modification recommendations; Review, prepare, and submit settlement recommendations.

  • Monitor delinquency trends; Create daily, weekly and/or monthly strategies that would enhance collection and loss mitigation efforts and effectively reduce delinquency and prevent charge-offs.

  • Performs the activities and projects as assigned and requested by the Collections Recovery Manager and VP of Member Solutions & Loss Mitigation.

  • Successfully handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of all applicable collection laws and Federal and State regulations related to commercial lending as well as knowledge of the Fair Debt Collections Practice Act (FDCPA)

  • Knowledge of credit union collection policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of loan workout techniques, polices, procedures and principals of lending is preferred

  • Working Knowledge of the following: Special assets, real estate laws, SBA loans, delinquency procedures, claim submissions.

  • Ability to organize and interpret data,

  • Familiarity with word-processing and spreadsheet applications.

Experience

The following are required for consideration for the Member Services Special Assets Administrator

  • A minimum of three years of experience in commercial loan collections, commercial lending consumer collections and/or mortgage collections

  • Two years’ experience working in a commercial real estate environment is preferred.

  • Experience with independently managing assigned loan portfolios is preferred.

  • Experience processing commercial loan modifications within a financial environment is preferred.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Business/Accounting/Finance related preferred) or high school diploma/equivalent.
