Job Description:

The Department of Criminal Justice and Civic Sciences at LSU of Alexandria is seeking an assistant professor to join our Criminal Justice team to teach undergraduate courses in Criminal Justice and other discipline related courses.

This is a 9-month full-time on-campus position with opportunities for summer teaching. 

Candidates with a terminal degree in a related field and relevant professional experience will be considered for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor rank.

A candidate may be hired at the non-tenure track instructor level if academic credentials and experience are more commensurate with that rank (i.e., master's degree in Criminal Justice or a related field

Qualifications:

  • Masters’ degree in Criminal Justice or a related field required; doctorate is strongly preferred
  • University-level teaching experience preferred
  • Industry-related experience preferred


Responsibilities:
Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Plan and teaches courses as assigned, in both online and face-to-face formats. The instructor full-time teaching load is 15 credits per fall and spring semester. The assistant professor full-time teaching load is 12 credit hours per fall and spring semester.
  • Prepare syllabi and instructional materials, coordinate lectures, prepare and administers exams
  • Maintain highest possible standards of classroom instruction
  • Keep regular office hours and maintain clear communication with students and faculty, both in person and through email
  • Actively serve on university committees
  • Actively maintain community partnerships in the criminal justice and related fields
  • Actively seek out opportunities for students to showcase their work in the field of criminal justice
  • Actively participate in institutional meetings
  • Demonstrate willingness to learn and enhance professional skills through regular professional development and other activities appropriate to higher education faculty
  • Stay updated on new information and developments in criminal justice
  • Assist with curriculum assessment
  • Advise and mentors assigned students
  • Participate in university and community service projects
  • Work with LSU Online in preparing and revising program courses taught online
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
