In the course of a year, we provide more than 3,000 children, ages 6 weeks through Pre-K with high-quality literacy and STEAM-infused learning; give 58,000 youth and teens access to sports, aquatics, day and resident camps, teen leadership development programs, and employment opportunities; provide over 200,000 members with programs, services, and facilities to enjoy connection and maintain wellness regardless of age; and engage over 25,000 volunteers and donors from across Atlanta to share in the gift of supporting their communities.

 

NATURE AND SCOPE:
Reporting directly to the Branch Manager, the Community Outreach Assistant plays a vital role in connecting the organization with the local community and promoting our mission. The Community Outreach Assistant will support outreach events and activities, build relationships with community members, and provide information about the resources and services we offer. This role requires strong communication skills, a compassionate approach, and a passion for serving the community. This is a grant funded position.

RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

Community engagement:

  • Represent the organization at community events, health fairs, and other public gatherings.
  • Actively recruit participants, volunteers, and potential donors for programs.
  • Conduct face-to-face outreach with families and community members to build rapport and trust.

Information and referral:

  • Serve as a knowledgeable and empathetic point of contact for community inquiries about programs and services.
  • Explain eligibility and application processes for services in a culturally sensitive and easy-to-understand manner.
  • Make direct referrals to internal and external resources to help meet community needs, such as healthcare, housing, or food assistance.

Program support:

  • Provide logistical and administrative support for outreach events and workshops, including setup, registration, and materials distribution.
  • Assist in creating and distributing marketing materials, such as flyers, brochures, and newsletters.
  • Engage with existing program participants to ensure they are connected with the resources they need.

Documentation and reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of all outreach activities and client contacts in a database.
  • Assist with tracking and reporting program metrics, outcomes, and progress toward goals.
  • Provide regular updates and feedback to the supervisor to inform program strategy. 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and public speaking skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Proficiency with basic computer software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive) and data entry
  • Ability to work a flexible part-time schedule, which may include occasional evenings or weekends for events
  • Valid driver’s license, pass a motor vehicle report, and access to reliable transportation for local travel

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (social services, communications, etc.)
  • Experience working in a non-profit, community-based setting, or social services role
  • Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply, depending on the specific community
