Job Summary:

The Biotechnology and Bioentrepreneurship Program at the University of San Francisco invites applications for a two-year term Assistant Professor (“Teaching Professor”) in the field of molecular biology to begin August 2026, contingent upon funding approval, renewable according to program needs, budget, and satisfactory review. The University of San Francisco has a career ladder by which a Teaching Professor may apply for promotion to Associate Professor after six years. The faculty will also be a member of the Department of Biology.

Job Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be dedicated to excellence in teaching and will be expected to teach introductory Biology courses (e.g. General Biology, Cell Physiology, and/or Genetics), as well as Molecular Biology, an interdisciplinary Cell/Molecular Methods course, and/or an upper division lab based course. The teaching load may also include lab based courses (e.g. Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology and/or Advanced Research Methods) for the Professional Science Master’s in Biotechnology program as needed. The typical teaching load for this position at USF is 24 units per year, typically three 4-unit courses per semester. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to engage in service to the department and college. 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline and, preferably, at least one year of teaching experience.  This position requires a commitment to excellence in teaching within a culturally diverse environment. In addition, a strong record of teaching at the university level, evidence of scholarship, and an understanding of and commitment to supporting the mission of the University of San Francisco are required.
