Job Summary
The Investigative Specialist is responsible for performing professional administrative work assisting in investigations conducted and managed by the Baltimore City Fire Department’s Office of Professional Standards. The incumbent will support the investigative process by assisting in investigations, reviewing documentation, and aiding in research and professional development.
- Key responsibilities include conducting investigative research, documenting violations, collecting and preserving evidence, analyzing case documentation (such as audio recordings, photographs, payroll records, body-worn camera footage, and police reports), conducting preliminary interviews, preparing reports, and recommending appropriate investigative and disciplinary actions. - Work hours are typically Monday through Friday but may include some evenings and weekends as operational needs require.
Essential Functions
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Have a High School Diploma/GED. Bachelor's degree preferred but not required.
AND
Experience: Possess at least two (2) years of investigative experience in any relevant discipline, including but not limited to criminal or civil investigations, internal or administrative investigations, evidence analysis, interviewing, report writing, policy review, and regulatory or administrative compliance.
OR
Equivalency Notes: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates: Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit. PROVISIONAL DRIVER’S LICENSE OR LEARNER PERMITS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.

Background Check
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint screening, and must be successfully completed.
Probation
All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a 6-month mandatory probation.

This position is required to complete a Financial Disclosure pursuant to Sections 7-7, 7-8, and 7-9 of the City Ethics Law. The initial financial disclosure must be submitted within 30 days of hire.
