GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Senior Estimator is responsible to predict the costs of future projects, taking into account similar projects completed in the past, costs and quantities of material to be used, the productivity and pay of workers involved, and unforeseen or emergency expenses.
JOB FUNCTION:
Conduct studies, consult with clients, prepare bids, select vendors, and determine cost effectiveness. Understand the customer’s requirements and the cost of meeting those requirements. Responsible for maintaining an appropriate balance between customer satisfaction and company profitability.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Analyze blueprints, product specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare estimates relating to time, cost, and labor
Use accepted standards to price all production work
Develop knowledge of best suppliers and competitive prices
Work with cost accounting to determine hourly rates and production standards for various operations
Compare the actual cost of the finished product to the estimated cost, determine the reason for any discrepancy, and determine how to fix it
Research and recommend to management cost saving techniques and ideas.
Analyze the effect of changes in design, materials, and manufacturing methods on business costs
Track and compare projected costs with actual production costs, and use gathered data to make monthly forecasts
Work closely with Purchasing to create a standard cost development system and to evaluate current and future inventory levels
Prepare monthly cost reports and variance analysis to report to management.
Review bills of material for standard costs and accuracy
Coordinate with Manufacturing Engineers to review and develop labor standards
REQUIRED SKILLS:
3 to 5 years of electrical, sign, and lighting experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Ability to prepare detailed, accurate estimates
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Familiarity with ERP systems
Knowledge of blue prints and construction drawings helpful
