Production Team Member - Pourer

Purpose of Role:

The Melting pourer is responsible for the safe and controlled operation of all Ladle related tasks. This includes inspection and maintenance of the ladle refractory.  He/she pours hot molten metal from the ladle to the sand molds, identifies the next heat to be poured and verifies the number of molds in that heat, rolls ladles over to transfer the metal from the ladle to the AOD vessel and slag at different times, takes samples from the ladle, takes temperatures from the ladle and prepares the ladles for the next heat.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Rebuild Pouring Ladles per procedures for next heat. 
  • Sets the stopper rod in the ladle and checks for fit. 
  • Holds the transfer ladle steady with a long rod while the heat is being tapped from the furnace. 
  • Uses ladle to pour metal into vessel and molds, and collect sample for lab testing.
  • Inspects and maintains the condition of the transfer ladles by chipping the solidified slag. 
  • Participate in lean initiatives (6S, Visual Management, Kaizen).

  • Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to work in high temperatures and a loud environment.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and be physically active for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

  • Education:  High school diploma/GED 
  • Other Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  Good reading, writing, and verbal skills
