Student Financial Services and the Community Investment Collaborative (Central Virginia Small Business Development Center) are jointly recruiting a Federal Work Study Intern for the 2025-2026 academic school year. This job will be located at 300 Preston Avenue Suite 206 Charlottesville, VA 22902. The ideal candidate must be a Federal Work Study Recipient.
Organization Description:
The Central Virginia Small Business Development Center (CV SBDC) is a team of business and technical experts available to listen, advise and assist entrepreneurs. CV SBDC is armed with a wealth of assets and a commitment to help small businesses achieve their business goals. CV SBDC offers a wide variety of
services to clients at various stages of development; most notably, providing 1:1
business counseling in a variety of technical areas, including funding sources,
international trade, product development strategies, employee hiring and retention, and government contracting. In addition, CV SBDC features access to in-depth
research to understand various industries, communities and specific market opportunities as well as a large roster of events and training, including the Business Essentials Training (BET), covering everything from beginning business topics to advanced skills development and training. CV SBDC’s goal is to level the playing field for small businesses, growing strong communities and businesses.
CV SBDC is looking for a student to join for the organization in the role of Operations and Project Assistant. Working at CV SBDC is a unique opportunity to be fully involved in a diverse organization, and the chosen applicant will have a meaningful impact in the development of a local community organization that supports small businesses. The Operations and Project Assistant will be offered a variety of experiences, including but not limited to the following:
In addition to these primary tasks, you can expect to be part of other projects as needed. These may include some of the following: developing marketing materials and client outreach, evaluating and monitoring success metrics associated with the education of entrepreneurs, researching entrepreneurial opportunities, developing programmatic elements and assisting as needed with the general operations of the organization.
Professional Development:
The Project and Operations Assistant will experience the organic process of entrepreneurship not only through assigned projects but also through the stories and daily realities of CV SBDC clients as they launch and grow their businesses. CV SBDC maintains intimate relationships with its entrepreneurs in order to
ensure full and ongoing support.
Students will hone their communication skills through CV SBDC's education programs and stakeholder engagement, expand their knowledge of business through the training program and through the interaction with clients applying for assistance.
The Operations and Project Assistant will collaborate with the Client Services Coordinator to establish a mutually agreeable, required, and consistent schedule of 10 hrs/wk during the academic year. We request that the student work in the office two to three days per week depending on their hours. Our office is located at 300 Preston Ave. Suite 206, Charlottesville VA.
This role pays $15.00 dollars per hour for a maximum of 10 hours per week during the 2025-2026 academic year
