What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The budgeted hourly range for this position is $23.33 - $29.16. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

The City and County of Denver has announced furlough days, or unpaid days off, for most employees to meet a budget shortfall in 2025. There are two fixed furlough days for all limited (temporary positions with an end date) and unlimited (permanent) employees on August 29th, the Friday before Labor Day, and November 28th, the day after Thanksgiving. If you receive an offer for this position, your annual pay will determine whether you are required to take additional furlough days. Details will be discussed during the offer process for selected candidate(s). 

Location
The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. In this position you can expect to work from the Bill Daniels Veteran Services Center (VSC) located at 1247 Santa Fe Dr, Denver, CO 80204, Richard T. Castro Building 1200 Federal, Denver, CO 80204, or one of the DHS Neighborhood Resource Sites located at the following location: Arie P. Taylor Municipal Center 4685 Peoria St. Denver, CO 80239, 3 days per week, and off-site 2 days per week. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.

Our employees help children, at-risk adults, families, and individuals navigate social and economic pressures by connecting them to services and experts who support their overall well-being.

Denver Human Services Engagement and Outreach Division is currently seeking a dedicated, well-versed, and experienced professional to serve as an Outreach and Veteran Services Case Coordinator. 

Specifically, as an Outreach and Veteran Services Case Coordinator, you will:

  • Provide one-on-one services to customers and veterans, using a holistic, goal-oriented approach that is driven by the customer’s identified needs and goals. Central to this work is the ability to provide motivational interviewing and facilitate resource navigation to veterans residing in the City and County of Denver. All functions and responsibilities of this role include providing trauma-informed, wrap-around, and empathetic customer service
  • Offer a variety of services for people who present with needs ranging from food, housing, medical concerns, behavioral health needs, and connections to community supports. This unit travels frequently and is located throughout Denver County at a variety of sites
  • This position may require attendance at community engagement and outreach events that may occur during the evening and on weekends. You will help build relationships and partnerships throughout the Denver community, and internal to other DHS programs, while representing REP and DHS and Veteran Services at community engagement events
  • This role may also be deployed to support emergency operations throughout the city of Denver as needed. Emergency operations can include supporting shelter operations, emergency food distribution, responding to natural disasters and/or community needs throughout metro Denver
  • This role may be assigned to different teams to address the operational needs of the Outreach teams. These assignments may last several months or may end up with the assignment to a permanent team

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics: 

  • Professional experience offering peer navigation, case management, resource referral, and navigating systems including Human Services, Justice/Courts, Health Systems, Shelter and/or transitional housing
  • Strong relationship building and networking skills. This role will rely heavily on community resources/partners and need to navigate internal (to DHS) and external resources to deliver appropriate services for each customer situation or presenting need
  • Strong customer service both internal to an agency and customer facing, preferably with skills in problem-solving, analytical thinking, motivational interviewing, de-escalation and coping skills, and experience administering trauma informed practices
  • Excellent and diverse communication skills. The selected candidate will be comfortable working one-on-one with clients
  • Understanding of General Assistance and Public assistance programs, community resources in Denver and surrounding areas
  • Strong organization, accountability, and case documentation experience
  • Willing to work independently in in diverse environments and available to work weekends and evenings when needed
  • Self-motivated and able to work virtually as needed
  • Experience with Microsoft teams and other computer skills
  • Travels to individual locations, other agencies, and community resources for the purpose of arranging and providing services for individuals, and families
  • Makes referrals to other public and private social services and community agencies and resources to meet individual and family needs, assists individual and their families in understanding and utilizing these resources
  • Travels to individual locations, other agencies, and community resources for the purpose of arranging and providing home/community-based service for individuals, and families
  • Drivers License preferred 

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
  • Experience Requirement: One (1) year of experience supporting human services, social services, and/or public health programs
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement
