This is an on-call position, which means it is a part-time, hourly role. This position will work no more than 39 hours per week. The hiring pay range for this position $23.89/hour - $31.00/hour, based on experience. This position is eligible to enroll in the City and County of Denver’s 457b retirement plan. This position is not eligible for other additional benefits. On‐call positions may have routine or variable work schedules.
In this position, you can expect to work on-site, Monday – Friday, at the Webb Municipal Building in Denver. Licensing Technicians are responsible for performing work at the customer-facing counters at the Denver Licensing and Consumer Protection offices at the Webb Municipal Building.

We manage the issuance of over 120 types of business licenses, partnering with entrepreneurs and organizations to ensure compliance and support economic growth. Our dedicated team oversees license renewals, conducts public hearings, and enforces regulations through actions such as suspensions and revocations. DLCP also collects fees for new and renewed licenses, issues security alarm permits, and serves as the local authority for administering Colorado’s liquor and marijuana codes. Together, we help foster a fair, vibrant, and well-regulated business environment across the city.
The Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection is seeking an oncall / part-time Licensing Technician II to process individual, business, marijuana and liquor license applications and review technical, legal, and other required documents for accuracy and consistency. In this role, you will explain city licensing rules, regulations, and state statutes.
Generally, the Licensing Technician II will:
Processes a variety of complex license applications, reviews documentation for completion and accuracy, and ensures compliance with statutes and reviews applications for legal documents and determines if there are any missing items and documents findings.
Assists Licensing Technician I's with difficult licensing questions or complaints and fields questions from staff and stakeholders about status of current cases.
Reviews new applications and drafts appropriate notice for errors that have been identified within the application.
Informs applicants of additional steps that need to be taken to obtain licenses.
Responds to complex questions from applicants, attorneys, and State Enforcement Divisions.
Prepares a variety of customer and internal correspondence needed for licensing
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested
Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:
Specialized and/or technical office support experience in Federal, State or Local government working with a filing/application operation to include responding to constituent's requests for service and providing end-user support for Web enabled filings.
Three years of customer service experience.
Proficiency within the full Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.
Exceptional customer service skills in a high transactional environment.
Ability to research and apply Municipal Codes and Statutes.
Ability to communicate in both English and Spanish.
Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
Experience Requirement: Two (2) years of administrative support experience, which must include one year of experience reviewing, assessing, and processing business licensing applications or similarly complex regulatory/compliance documents or files.
Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
