Location and Schedule

  • In this position you can expect to work 100% on site at the Communications Center at Denver International Airport. Free employee parking is provided. 

  • The scheduled workweek may consist of either four 10‑hour shifts or five 8‑hour shifts and will vary. The candidate may be scheduled to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Shift differentials are offered for swing and overnight hours to recognize and reward employees unique schedules.

  • This role supports mandatory on-call snow overtime.

  • Schedules are subject to change and based on the operational needs or the organization.

What You’ll Do 

In this position you will be 1 of 7 supervisors reporting to the Communications Center Senior Manager. You will lead a group of Airport Communications Center Representatives and Airport Emergency Dispatchers to ensures that the daily operations at DEN are smooth and successful by facilitating communication between various Airport departments, Managers, Denver Police Department, Denver Fire Department, Denver Paramedics and Airport Security.

 

As an Airport Communications Center Supervisor, you can expect to:

  • Supervise the enforcement of safety and security regulations for the airport

  • Activate the Emergency Notification System. Ensures the timely notification of individuals and organizations assisting in the handling of airport emergencies

  • Supervise airport-wide communications during crisis situations. Ensures compliance with the Airport Emergency Plan

  • Oversee the issuance of Violation Notices to airport employees, tenants, and vendors that have violated Federal Aviation Regulations, Airport Security Plan, or Airport Rules and Regulations

  • Implement and interpret policies and procedures developed by higher-level managers or supervisors. Assists in developing, recommending, and coordinating the implementation of new procedures for the assigned functions or unit

  • Allocate and maintains resources within the supervised function in accordance with work requirements and budget constraints

  • Establish and maintain preventative maintenance programs for communications center equipment

  • Prepares written reports and records of work accomplished and provides information regarding new directives to employees of the work unit

  • Receive training in managing field operations; safety and security compliance inspections; and managing, coordinating, and resolving airport emergencies, security problems and unusual situations.

  • Develop goals, documents performance, provides performance feedback and formally evaluates the work of the employee; provides reward and recognition for proper and efficient performance. Coaches staff to achieve performance standards and identifies opportunities for continual improvement to performance standards by conducting 1:1 employee meetings

  • Conduct hiring interviews and selects candidate(s) for job opening(s)

  • Resolves problems encountered during daily operations and determines appropriate solutions; promotes teamwork. Encourages regular communication, informs staff of relevant business issues and their impact on the organization

  • Demonstrates strong communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders, ensuring exceptional customer service and adherence to organizational standards

  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested

  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience 

  • Work experience in an airport or communications center environment

  • Experience with or interest in learning the following software/systems: Microsoft Office Suite, Access Control System, Computer Aided Dispatch, Two-Way Multi-Channel Radio, and Multi-Line Phone System

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.

  • Experience Requirement: Two (2) years of experience working in a high volume airport communications center which must include one year of emergency call taking and dispatching

  • Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement.

  • License/Certifications: By position, requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.

FBI Background Check

FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN). Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment. By position, a pre-employment physical/drug test may be required. 

Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Background Check required 

Must pass a CBI background and fingerprint check and obtain and maintain CBI certification as a condition of employment. Must take and pass an online test every two years to maintain certification.   

Shift Work, Snow Duties, and Emergency Incidents

This position does require shift work as DEN is a 24/7/365 operation (includes nights, weekends and holidays).  Mandatory extended/additional shifts can be required.  Additionally, this position is required to work mandatory snow duties, which vary and can include nights, weekends and holidays.
