Job Title: Stewarding Operations Manager

Location: Rainbow Room, New York City
Department: Culinary / Event Operations
Reports To: Executive Chef

Position Summary

The Stewarding Operations Manager at the Rainbow Room plays a vital role in supporting culinary and event excellence by managing all stewarding and some banquet operations. Reporting directly to the Executive Chef, this role is responsible for the cleanliness, organization, and logistical execution of all kitchen and event pantry areas. The Manager will ensure full compliance with sanitation standards, maintain inventory and par levels, optimize labor resources, and uphold the highest standards of professionalism and efficiency in both back- and front-of-house environments as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Stewarding Responsibilities

  • Oversee all stewarding functions to ensure strict compliance with NYC Health Department sanitation and safety regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen spaces, equipment, and utility areas.
  • Ensure back-of-house areas are stocked with appropriate service ware, flatware, glassware.
  • Develop and manage weekly labor schedules for stewarding team, aligning staffing levels with operational needs and budgetary targets.
  • Assist in recruiting, onboarding, training, and performance management of all stewarding associates.
  • Manage and maintain organization and cleanliness of all storage areas, equipment racks, and dishwashing operations.

Operations Responsibilities

  • Assist with room and event setup logistics including the movement and placement of tables, bars, buffets, and décor elements as needed.
  • Assist operations managers with oversight of banquet house and public area attendants to ensure immaculate presentation of all guest-facing banquet items in front of house and staff-only areas.
  • Plan and coordinate equipment usage, ensuring availability and readiness for all events.
  • Manage requisition process, track, and manage equipment inventory; maintain appropriate par levels.
  • Conduct weekly and quarterly inventory audits of event equipment, and cleaning supplies.

Leadership & Administrative Duties

  • Supervise and develop a cross-functional team, fostering open communication between culinary, stewarding, and operations staff.
  • Act as a liaison between the Executive Chef and operational teams to execute event plans seamlessly.
  • Uphold a standard of excellence and professionalism under pressure; lead with a calm and steady demeanor.
  • Establish quality control systems and safety protocols to ensure a consistent and high-standard working environment.
  • Promote a workplace culture that is respectful, inclusive, and free from harassment of any kind.

Requirements

Professional Experience & Skills

  • 3–5 years in a stewarding or operations role within a high-volume, fine dining or luxury event setting.
  • Strong leadership abilities and experience managing multilingual teams.
  • Deep understanding of NYC Health Department regulations, sanitation procedures, and kitchen logistics.
  • Effective planner with strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in managing inventory, scheduling, cost controls, and ordering systems.

Availability & Physical Requirements

  • Open availability required: early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods; ability to lift up to 75 lbs regularly.
  • Comfortable navigating limited spaces and working in high-rise environments (over 60 floors).
  • Capable of operating standard kitchen and office equipment with strong manual dexterity.

The base compensation range for this role is $75,000.00 - 80,000.00. This role is also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, as well as access to our comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, life and disability insurance, 401(k) plan (with matching contributions), wellness benefits and all other benefits afforded to full-time Rainbow Room employees.

This base range reflects a number of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skill sets, and/or licensure required of an individual in this particular role. The base range is also specific to members of Rainbow Room’s New York team, as we’ve considered factors specific to this geography.
