Industrial Engineer – Job Family (Multiple Openings)

Overview 

The Industrial Engineer ensures the performance, safety, and longevity of power generation assets. This role applies to Six Sigma principles, advanced diagnostics (e.g., vibration analysis), and cross-functional collaboration to drive continuous improvement. Engineers contribute to technical documentation and project execution at every level. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of power generation systems 

  • Apply engineering principles to solve technical challenges 

  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams 

  • Prepare cost estimates, order materials, and manage projects 

  • Interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation 

  • Support compliance with utility codes and regulatory standards 

  • Drive continuous improvement through data-driven insights 

  • The ability and willingness to respond to emergency situations when and if necessary 24/7 

  • The ability and willingness to climb and work at elevation 

Qualifications 

Associate Engineer 

  • BS in Engineering or Engineering Technology (ABET-accredited) college or university program 

  • 0–12 months relevant experience 

  • Basic knowledge of statics, material strengths, and power systems 

  • Valid driver’s license 

Engineer 1 

  • BS in Engineering or Engineering Technology (ABET-accredited) college or university program 

  • 1+ years relevant experience 

  • Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals 

  • Ability to prepare cost estimates under supervision 

  • Valid driver’s license 

Engineer 2 

  • BS in Engineering or Engineering Technology (ABET-accredited) college or university program 

  • 18–24 months relevant experience in industrial engineering 

  • Growing expertise in engineering principles and project execution 

  • Preferred:  Familiarity with NIPSCO system configuration and utility codes  

  • Valid driver’s license 

  • Preferred: PMP certification; advanced project management skills 

Engineer 3 

  • BS in Engineering or Engineering Technology (ABET-accredited) college or university program 

  • 4+ years relevant industrial engineering experience 

  • Comprehensive knowledge of industrial engineering and utility codes - preferred 

  • Ability to manage complex projects and mentor junior engineers 

  • Valid driver’s license 

  • Preferred: EIT/PE certification; PMP certification 

Senior Engineer 

  • BS in Engineering or Engineering Technology (ABET-accredited) college or university program 

  • 7+ years relevant industrial engineering experience 

  • Expert knowledge of engineering principles, AutoCAD, and compliance standards 

  • Strong leadership, coaching, and project management skills 

  • Valid driver’s license 

  • Preferred: EIT/PE certification; PMP certification 

 

This position is posted as a five‑level Industrial Engineer job family, ranging from Associate through Senior. The successful candidate will be placed at the level that most appropriately corresponds to their education, experience, and demonstrated qualifications 

Salary Range 

  • Associate Engineer: $67,900 – $101,900 

  • Engineer 1: $67,900 – $101,900 

  • Engineer 2: $79,800 – $119,600 

  • Engineer 3: $93,800 – $140,700 

  • Senior Engineer: $110,200 – $165,300
