Job Description

Nevada State University invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Financial Aid Services. The Assistant Director will oversee student-facing financial aid services, including advising, scholarships, and appeals. This position reports to and supports the Associate Director of Financial Aid Operations in developing policies and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations to enhance service and operational effectiveness.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and support professional financial aid staff, including the Financial Aid Advisor, Appeals Officer, and Scholarship Specialist, to ensure consistent, high-quality service.
  • Oversee student-facing financial aid operations, ensuring staff are effectively trained and aligned with institutional expectations and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide direct advising to students and families on escalated or complex financial aid issues, including appeals and eligibility questions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of financial aid documents and applications, including monitoring workflow, resolving issues, and maintaining compliance.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for institutional and donor-funded scholarship programs, including coordination with the Bursar’s Office on third-party scholarship processes.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in higher education, public administration, business, management, finance, information systems, or a related field; or graduate degree in any field.
  • Minimum of five years of related professional experience in financial aid administration.
  • At least three years of supervisory, managerial, or team lead experience.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, NSHE, and institutional financial aid regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • NASFAA Certified Financial Aid Administrator (FAAC®) designation.
  • Experience with the PeopleSoft Campus Solutions Financial Aid module.
  • Demonstrated success in implementing process improvements or policy development within a financial aid office.

Salary & Benefits

Budgeted salary for this position is $61,553. Nevada State University offers excellent benefits, including 19.25% retirement match, 24 annual leave days, beginning balance of 30 sick leave days, 12 paid holidays, educational benefits, and three health insurance plans that can be supplemented with flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts.
