Education:
Required: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master’s degree in Nursing
Licensure/Certification:
Required: California Registered Nurse (RN) licensure; Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) from American Heart Association (AHA)
Experience:
Required: Two (2) years of clinical RN experience
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
Ability to ensure and act as a resource for the RN staff for the care and maintenance of epidural catheter, Acts as resource for staff in pain management care planning, Consistently work with the pain management physicians on rounding of inpatients, Facilitates initiatives for pain assessment and reassessmentEssential Responsibilities
1. Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations. 2. Performs physical assessment on patients in pain service. 3. Develops plan of care based on assessment. 4. Demonstrates implementation skills in accordance with EMH Standards of Care, policies, procedures, and Nurse Practice Act. 5. Evaluates effectiveness of nursing and medical interventions. 6.Changes intervention strategies when expected outcomes not met. 7. Consistently documents in accordance with EMH policies and procedures. 8. Consistently administers medications and documents in compliance with medication administration policies and procedures. 9. Demonstrates competency in the operation of equipment specific to pain service. 10. Provides accurate and precise reporting of patient condition and changes in a timely manner to physicians. 11. Adheres to guidelines for internal transfer of patient care. 12. Epidural Catheters: Rounds on each patient with epidural catheter to ensure that care is effective, Provides staff education as needed for procedures/epidural equipment, Gives bolus doses as ordered by physician, Assists with discontinuation of catheters. 13. Initiates discharge planning upon admission and throughout hospitalization in conjunction with Case Manager where appropriate. 14. Rounds on all pain patients to assist physicians and staff with the management of patients’ pain and does clinical data collection. Coordinates care with physician. 15. Participates in patient care conferences. 16. Performs pain management education to patients and staff. 17. Provides clinical expertise and is a resource to staff to solve pain specialty related situations. 18.Performs other duties as assigned.
