Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is seeking a Senior Principal Mission Architect Engineer Level 4 to join our team in Dulles, VA.
Successful candidates for this position will work in a technical thread lead role in the Space business area, as a key SME working on one of the hardest problems in space. This position offers the opportunity to work on exciting, cutting-edge programs and new mission areas.
This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.
In this job, you will:
- Support on-orbit-test, test scenario planning, and operations throughout all planning, execution, and debrief phases
- Provide Space Operations expertise to ensure spacecraft/payload and ground system health, status, anomaly troubleshooting, and anomaly-resolution
- Create and/or provide initial and post-maneuver orbit determination
- Development and improvement of on-orbit system-test procedures
- Perform demonstrations and conducting briefings explaining test procedures and processes
- Provide on-consol operational support and aiding in the investigation and diagnosis of unexpected system signatures
- Develop and review requirements, verification plans, and architecture for the mission system
This position is contingent upon the candidate obtaining final clearances and program access(es) within a reasonable period of time as determined by the company.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM with 8 years of professional experience in a related engineering field such as mechanical, electrical, aerospace and/or operations or Master’s degree with 6 years of professional experience or PhD with 4 years of professional experience
- Requires an active Top-Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance at time of application
- Strong technical background in orbital mechanics/astrodynamics
- Knowledge and experience in satellite operations engineering disciplines to include attitude control, power management, thermal control, propulsion, command and data handling, flight and ground software, and anomaly determination and resolution
- Experience with developing and presenting briefing slides to senior leaders and executive level personnel
- Ability to troubleshoot and correct problems in a dynamic environment
- Experience in RPO mission design and satellite ground software
- Rapid response mission experience with small satellite manufacturers
Preferred Qualifications:
- Have an extensive knowledge of different astrodynamic coordinate frames such as ECI and RIC
- Experience with optimization techniques and their application for trajectory optimization and/or multi-objective optimization
- Prior aerospace-related work experience for a U.S Government Agency or Contractor
- Background/fundamental understanding of performing statistical analysis

Primary Level Salary Range: $142,200.00 - $213,400.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
