The Registered Nurse Cardiology is responsible for providing individual patient care based on the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Abides by the regulations of the New Jersey/Pennsylvania State Registered Nurse Practice Act (based on work location), maintain standards of practice and adhere to St. Luke’s Hospital policies and procedures when providing patient care.

Cardiac Rehab - This part-time position can be a Registered Nurse Cardiology or Exercise Physiologist based on qualifications.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality standards, documentation, safety, environmental and infection control standards. 
  • Observation, evaluation, and documentation of the heart rhythms of the monitored clients and follow-up as needed.
  • Participates in the implementation of exercise, evaluation, assessment, and intervention of clients participating in the Cardiac Rehab Program. 
  • Effectively teach lifestyle modification as it pertains to cardiac risk factor reduction.
  • Has the ability to work independently and provide leadership to program participants.
  • Has the ability to communicate with other staff, management, physicians, allied health professionals, program participants and their families.
  • Demonstrates competency in the evaluation and assessment of comorbidities which may affect the client’s outcome and/or wellbeing during the cardiac rehab session
  • Participates in training medical and nursing personnel and allied health student interns.
  • Complies with hospital and departmental policies regarding safety, attendance, and dress code.
  • Reviews emergency equipment and code cart according to hospital policy
  • Review of client medical records pertinent to cardiac rehab programming and safe exercise practices.
  • Daily charges and check-ins of participating clients.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to stand for the greater part of 8 hours. Occasional handling, grasping, twisting and turning while aiding clients and setting up equipment. The possibility of lifting clients weighing up to 300 pounds with assistance. The possibility of pushing clients weighing up to 300 pounds in a wheelchair. Occasional stooping, bending, squatting, crouching, and reaching above shoulder level. Touching as it relates to patient assessment, attaching heart monitors, and auscultation of lungs. Hearing as it relates to normal conversation, BP evaluation, and auscultating lung sounds. Seeing as it relates to general close-up and distant vision.

If a Registered Nurse - Cardiology:

EDUCATION:

  • Registered Nurse with a current Pennsylvania license.
  • Maintains BCLS and ACLS Certification.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Specialized degree or certification in a cardiovascular clinical

             specialty with sufficient previous experience.

  • Proficiency in ECG rhythm recognition
  • Cardiopulmonary Rehab experience preferred.

If an Exercise Physiologist:

EDUCATION:       

  • Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, or related field required.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • One-year clinical experience Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation preferred. ACSM Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP), or ACSM Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist® (RCEP), or AACVPR Certified Cardiac Rehabilitation Specialist preferred. American Heart Association BLS Certification required. Proficiency in ECG rhythm recognition required. American Heart Association ACLS Certification preferred.
