Job Summary:

Under general supervision the HVAC-Facilities Building Sys Tech Lead performs advanced-level tasks to ensure a safe, comfortable, and operational environment across university facilities. Responsibilities include inspecting, troubleshooting, calibrating, repairing, and replacing building systems and equipment. Responds to emergency situations (electrical, mechanical, medical gas), evaluates issues, and initiates corrective actions or escalation protocols. Supports other trades, distributes work orders, and maintains clean and safe work areas. Communicates effectively with stakeholders and provides high-level customer service. May operate department vehicles and perform other duties as assigned.

Work schedule, shift, location, and hours are subject to change based on operational needs and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement. May work overtime and be subject to 24-hour emergency call.

Responsibilities:

• Perform complex maintenance and repair tasks on building systems and equipment.
• Respond to and resolve emergency disruptions.
• Distribute work orders and assist other trades.
• Maintain safety standards and clean work environments.

• Provide guidance and support to junior technicians.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma/GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Proficiency in high school-level algebra and geometry.
• Minimum six years of experience in building systems operations, commercial/industrial maintenance, and/or HVAC and building automation systems.
• At least two years of experience working on large-scale heating and cooling systems.
• One year of experience at a senior level within the skilled trades series.
• Must obtain the following within the probationary period:
•   - EPA Section 608 Universal Technician Certification
•   - OSHA 10-hour General Industry Safety and Health card
•   - Demonstrated competence in required technical specialties
• Valid State of Ohio driver’s license.
• Must be able to push/pull 70 lbs., distinguish colors, and climb/stand on ladders for extended periods.
• May work in hot, cold, dusty, dirty, or cramped environments for extended periods.

Desired Qualifications:

• Associate or technical degree/certificate in a skilled trades or maintenance-related field.
• Two years of experience with Direct Digital Controls (DDC) and building automation.
• Boiler operator’s license (low/high pressure).
• Familiarity with university building design standards and project processes managed by FOD Design and Construction.

Additional Information:

The Target Hiring Range for this position is $31.05 - $38.82 per hour.
