A part-time 50% FTE Sr. Research Associate/Technician 4 will work with Dr. Terrin Tamati on NIH-funded studies investigating speech communication, cognitive processing, and real-world outcomes in adult cochlear implant (CI) users. The position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to innovative, interdisciplinary research aimed at understanding and improving communication outcomes and quality of life for adults with hearing loss.

This position is ideal for candidates with interests in auditory cognition, aging and hearing, linguistic processing, or CI rehabilitation. The Sr. Research Associate/Technician 4 will be expected to manage and facilitate several research lines within the broader scope of the lab’s goals.

The Sr. Research Associate 4 will act as a primary lead in the laboratory and contribute to experimental design, data collection, analysis, and manuscript preparation. The individual will support the development and piloting of new experimental tasks and outcome measures, as well as manage other research personnel, graduate research associates, and undergraduate research assistants. They will assist with grant writing and lab infrastructure, including IRB protocols and database management. The Sr. Research Associate/Technician 4 will have the opportunity to collaborate with national and international partners working in hearing, language, aging, and health equity.

Key Research Areas:

  • Longitudinal studies tracking speech recognition, cognitive functioning, and quality of life over time in adults receiving cochlear implants
  • Investigations of how cognitive-linguistic factors, social environments, and auditory experiences shape individual differences in CI outcomes and speech communication in normal-hearing adults
  • New projects focused on barriers to cochlear implantation, real-world listening challenges such as talker and accent variability, and ecological momentary assessment (EMA) of communication success

Minimum Education Required:

Bachelors Degree in Speech and Hearing Science, Psychology, Linguistics, or a related field. Strong writing, organizational, and communication skills. Significant experience conducting behavioral research with human participants.

Preferred Education Required:

A Ph.D. in Speech and Hearing Science, Psychology, Linguistics, or a related field is strongly desired.

Desired Qualifications:  

Preferred: experience with cochlear implant users; skills in REDCap, MATLAB, R, Python, or other experimental platforms; experience with EMA, mixed methods, or speech analysis.

This is a 50% FTE, in-person, term, part-time position located in Pressey Hall. The position is funded by external sponsorship and subject to grant funding.
