The College of Food, Agriculture, and Environmental Sciences – Plant Pathology Department

Position Type: Temporary, less than 1 year assignment

The Department of Plant Pathology at CFAES is seeking a Visiting Scholar for a temporary position focused on the epidemiology and management of diseases of cereal crops. This role will contribute to federally-, commodity-, and industry-funded research projects aimed at improving disease control strategies and advancing scientific understanding in cereal crop pathology.

Key Responsibilities

  • 70% – Assist graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and research associates with:

    • Establishment and maintenance of field experiments
    • Disease and crop development data collection and organization
    • Collection and processing of grain and spore samples
  • 20% – Support activities related to fungal culture and inoculum preparation.

  • 10% – Assist with preparation of graphs, tables, PowerPoint slides, and posters for extension and scientific meetings.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Plant Pathology, Agronomy, Biology, or related field
  • Experience with field research and data collection
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong organizational skills

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with fungal culture techniques
  • Experience in cereal crop disease management
  • Proficiency in data visualization and presentation tools
