Description Summary
The Early Student Engagement Specialist plays a vital role in supporting undergraduate recruitment for the College of Engineering as part of the Community, Access, Retention, and Empowerment (CARE) team. This position focuses on creating meaningful experiences for prospective students through college visits, tours, events, and interactive engagement opportunities that highlight the pathways and possibilities within engineering and related fields at Ohio State.
Working collaboratively with CARE colleagues, student organizations, and campus partners, the specialist facilitates recruitment events designed to introduce students to the College of Engineering and the Knowlton School of Architecture. The role involves coordinating on- and off-campus programs that broaden awareness of career opportunities and degree options, while partnering with faculty, staff, and student organizations to deliver engaging activities that inspire future engineers.
The specialist manages the planning and logistics for college overview sessions, tours, and special engagement programs, ensuring that each experience reflects the dynamic and innovative spirit of the college. The ability to connect across lines of difference to make meaningful connections with prospective students and families, and to strengthen relationships with student organizations, is essential to advance recruitment priorities and fosters an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere for visitors. Additional responsibilities include collecting and maintaining data for all recruitment events, preparing program summary reports, and conducting volunteer training for students who assist with tours and events. The specialist also provides support for other CARE initiatives as needed, contributing to the team’s mission of fostering access and empowerment for future engineering students.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills; comfortable presenting in-person and virtually; experience in MS Office required, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; proficient using systems such as Zoom, Qualtrics, etc. 2 years of relevant experience required.
Desired Qualifications
2-4 years of relevant experience preferred.Background or experience in STEM; experience in higher education outreach, recruitment, student services; knowledge of higher education administration, recruitment and admissions trends, practices and principles experience in working with volunteers and/or student organizations; strong project management skills with the ability to navigate shifting priorities efficiently.
This student-facing role requires some evening and weekend commitments, as well as travel. Due to the nature of the position and the significant interaction with students, faculty, staff, and the public, a fully remote or hybrid schedule is limited.
Resume Required
Hiring Range: $22.93 - $29.95
The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post offer process.
