Position Overview:

The Soft Wheat Quality Laboratory is seeking to hire a Research Assistant 2 to support lab activities.


The successful candidate is preferred to hold a Bachelor's degree and have at least one year of experience working in a cereal grain biochemistry and quality evaluation laboratory or a similar environment.

Duties include:

  • Performs routine and recurring quality evaluation of wheat grains using a variety of specialized equipment and methods

  • Collects, prepares, evaluates, and verifies samples and supporting records; maintains records and locates and compiles data obtained 

  • Assists in one or more phases of the research process by performing a variety of technical duties, in a laboratory, field, or greenhouse environment, common to the assigned area of work.

  • Performs general laboratory maintenance (e.g., washing dishes, cleaning workspaces, making buffers and solutions, general equipment care)

  • Interpret datasets, writing result summaries, and generating descriptive and informative figures
     

Training & Supervision:

The Research Assistant will receive guidance, direction, and training from the Principal Investigator (PI) and senior lab personnel to ensure successful execution of assigned duties.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience in a cereal grain biochemistry or quality evaluation laboratory (or similar environment)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols
  • Effective communication and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Food Science, Agronomy, Biochemistry)
  • Experience with laboratory instrumentation and data analysis tools
