The School of Environment and Natural Resources (SENR) at The Ohio State University seeks an Administrative Assistant to support the school’s administrative and academic teams while providing exceptional customer service to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

This position serves as the primary front desk contact for SENR and plays a critical role in student support, academic operations, and general office administration. The Administrative Assistant ensures smooth daily operations through effective communication, coordination, and organizational support while maintaining a welcoming and professional office environment.

Key Responsibilities

Front Desk and Customer Service

  • Provide front desk coverage for SENR, serving as the first point of contact for students, visitors, faculty, and staff
  • Greet visitors, manage student traffic, and direct individuals to appropriate offices and services
  • Answer, screen, and route incoming phone calls
  • Respond to general inquiries regarding curriculum, degree requirements, scheduling, and office procedures

Academic and Student Support

  • Support the graduation application review process by preparing graduation audit letters and distributing them to students following review and approval
  • Coordinate and compile the undergraduate biweekly newsletter
  • Support undergraduate student events and activities coordinated by the academic team

Office Operations and Administrative Support

  • Schedule SENR conference rooms and classrooms
  • Manage the use and scheduling of office equipment, vehicles, and other departmental assets
  • Maintain mailroom and copier operations, including mail distribution and supply ordering
  • Coordinate UPS and USPS shipping needs
  • Order office and mailroom supplies
  • Assist with departmental meetings, events, and special projects as assigned

Purchasing and Travel Coordination

  • Assist with purchasing processes in accordance with university policies
  • Coordinate domestic travel for academic staff, faculty, graduate students, and student groups

Leadership and Backup Support

  • Provide backup administrative support to the Associate Directors for Undergraduate Education and Research and Graduate Education, including calendar management, travel coordination, and fiscal support
  • Serve as backup for managing the Director’s calendar and related administrative needs

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant administrative or office support experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of relevant experience in administrative support, preferably in higher education
  • Experience providing front‑line customer service in a fast‑paced environment
  • Strong organizational and communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
