Job Summary

Supervises the planning, development, and implementation of clinical practices, research and education in the area of human and clinical genetics under the supervision of leadership. Maintains clinical and professional competency as appropriate to the age, developmental stages, and special needs of the patients served.



Essential Functions

  • Assesses, plans, and manages medical, psychosocial, and social problems for a specialty patient population.
  • Acts as liaison with health care professionals for inquiries and referrals.
  • Initiates, designs, and conducts formal and informal education programs for physicians, genetic counseling students, other health professionals and the general community.
  • Monitors and recommends integration of new technologies, theories, and resources in the areas of patient care, project design, education programs and program development.
  • Develops and maintains accurate case records of each referred patient. Documents fully and accurately in the medical record.
  • Recognizes and provides cultural, language, and age specific difference of patient and family.
  • Supervises the planning, development, and implementation of genetic counseling programs, policies, and procedures within the area of human and clinical genetics.

Physical Requirements
Walking, standing, sitting, lifting, teaching, bending, pushing and pulling required. Must be able to lift and support the weight of 50 pounds in handling of patients and medical equipment and supplies. May be exposed to blood and other potentially infectious materials. Must have intact sense of sight, hearing, speed, touch and finger dexterity.



Education, Experience and Certifications

Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling or related field. 3 years experience as a Genetic Counselor. Extensive and broad experience in Clinical Genetics. Demonstrates exemplary capability in program development, policies and procedures within the area of human and clinical genetics. Board Certification as a Genetic Counselor by the American Board of Genetics Counseling.
