Job Description:

As an RN in our dedicated IV Therapy Unit, you’ll play a critical role in providing safe, efficient, and child-centered intravenous access and infusion services. Our team supports patients from neonatal to adolescent age groups, including those in critical care, oncology, surgical recovery, and general pediatrics.

As an RN in our specialized IV Therapy Unit at Primary Children’s Hospital, you’ll deliver safe, efficient, and compassionate vascular access and infusion care to pediatric patients. Serving neonates through adolescents, our team partners across critical care, oncology, surgical recovery, and general pediatrics to ensure high‑quality, child‑ and family‑centered care in a fast‑paced, highly collaborative environment

Location: Primary Children's Hospital, Salt Lake City, UT
Department: Pediatric IV Therapy
Schedule: Part-time | Rotating Day and Night Shifts

This position will be a shared position between PCH and the IV team. 24 hours with the IV team and 12 with another PCH department.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in state of practice. Valid compact licenses must be transferred to the state of practice within 60 days of the start of employment.

  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.

  • RNs with less than 12 months of experience must obtain their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within four (4) years of their hire date.

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN)

*Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required as of the job description's last update on 4/27/2025. Employees hired or promoted prior to this date will be held to the minimum requirements that were in place at the time of their promotion or hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN). Education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.

  • Pediatric experience

  • Previous vascular access experience

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. 

$34.53 - $52.25
