Team / Opportunity:

We are seeking a talented and experienced Infrastructure Engineer specializing in Operating Systems (OS), large‑scale Virtualization, Azure Cloud, Observability, and Automation to join Maersk. You will be responsible for designing, building, and operating complex, high‑performance, highly available infrastructure platforms, with a strong focus on automation,
performance, and reliability. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience with VMWare, Nutanix, DC components like compute, storage, and network, Java/JVM, Docker/Kubernetes, alongside strong coding and scripting skills. Knowledge of networking, AIOps, and workload/data centre migration will be an added advantage.

As an Infrastructure Engineer, you will demonstrate the following characteristics:

  • Proven background in delivering complex, high‑performance, highly available solutions at scale.

  • Creativity in coming up with innovative approaches to projects and to any issues that arise.

  • A strong bias for action – you are a “doʼer” who gets things done.

  • Passion for sharing expertise and insight with other engineers and teams.

Currently the tech stack is not 100% fixed, but we have a strong preference for commercial experience of open‑source plus cloud technologies. The ideal candidate will have a background that spans development, architecture, and operations. We are looking for full‑stack‑minded
engineers with deep expertise in three primary areas and working knowledge across all:

  • Virtualization – AHV, VMware

  • DevOps – GitHub, Terraform, Ansible

  • Backend / Platform – Python, CLI, RESTful APIs, CI/CD pipelines, process orchestration

Key Responsibilities:

Infrastructure and Virtualization Engineering:

  • Design, build, and operate virtualization environments and remote DC using technologies such as VMware vCenter and Nutanix.

  • Support and manage both on‑prem and cloud‑hosted virtualization platforms, ensuring high availability, performance, and capacity alignment with business needs.

  • Drive data centre and workload migrations using industry‑standard tools and methodologies.

  • Manage and optimize data storage, server resources, and other virtual computing platforms.

Cloud, Automation and DevOps:

  • Engineer and optimize Azure and other public cloud infrastructure (Google / Azure) for scalability, performance, resilience, and cost‑efficiency.

  • Design, enhance, and support automation tools and pipelines (GitHub, Terraform, Ansible, CI/CD) that drive consistency, repeatability, and team efficiency.

  • Develop and maintain automation scripts and tools using Python, Bash, PowerShell, and RESTful APIs for provisioning, configuration management, and operational tasks.

  • Apply Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and DevOps practices to standardize environments and reduce manual work.

Observability, Operations and Reliability:

  • Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability solutions for infrastructure and platforms, leveraging open‑source and commercial tools.

  • Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues across OS, virtualization, storage, and network layers, with strong problem‑solving and performance‑tuning skills.

  • Contribute to the design of resilient, scalable systems and components, including failure‑mode analysis and capacity planning.

System and Application Management:

  • Oversee the administration, maintenance, and optimization of Linux and Windows operating systems in cloud and virtualized environments.

  • Collaborate closely with development and operations teams to integrate applications with underlying infrastructure, optimizing for performance, reliability, and operability.

  • Apply software engineering best practices, including version control, code review, and test‑driven approaches, to infrastructure and automation code.

Collaboration and Leadership:

  • Lead cross‑functional engagements with development, operations, and business teams to drive infrastructure‑related initiatives and modernisation programs

  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to team members, including offshore teams.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and engineering excellence.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelorʼs/Masterʼs degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of engineering experience at scale, with a strong focus on infrastructure and virtualization.

  • Deep knowledge of operating systems (Linux/Windows), virtualization platforms (VMware, Nutanix), data storage, server infrastructure, and networking fundamentals.

  • Strong experience with large‑scale virtualization platforms, including VMware vCenter and Nutanix.

  • Strong experience in supporting and managing both on‑prem and cloud‑based virtualization platforms.

  • Demonstrated experience in data centre migrations and workload/data migration tools.

  • Proficiency in scripting and/or coding (Python, Bash, PowerShell) and experience in programming and automation.

  • Knowledge of RESTful API design patterns and integration.

  • Practical Linux and Windows system administration skills in cloud or virtualized environments.

  • Experience working with public (Google / Azure) and private cloud environments.

  • Knowledge of programming languages, operating system principles, networking, and software development best practices.

  • Experience in designing systems or components on complex projects.

  • Experience working with offshore and distributed teams.

  • Experience with Test‑Driven Development (TDD) or similar quality‑focused engineering approaches.

  • Excellent communication skills, solid work ethic, and a strong desire to write production‑quality code.

  • Passionate about learning new tools, languages, philosophies, and workflows.

Preferred Skills:

  • Certifications in VMWare, Hybrid Cloud, Nutanix, or Kubernetes.

  • Experience with observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, APM solutions) and alerting/monitoring platforms.

  • Hands‑on experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.

  • Strong knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform and Ansible.

  • Familiarity with AIOps concepts and tooling.

  • Knowledge of security best practices, compliance standards, and their application to infrastructure and cloud platforms.
