Pay Range
$37.50 - $56.25Major Responsibilities:
Conducts infection surveillance to determine if healthcare associated or community acquired. Gathers information by bacteriology data review, daily rounds, chart review, consultation with nursing and medical staff and direct observation of patients and caregivers.
Investigates clusters of infections from surveillance data, consults with Infectious Disease specialists and formulates, carries out and evaluates possible means of infection control and prevention.
Utilizes laboratory reports to identify significant organisms and/or trends and implements control measures.
Participates in Orientation presentations for New Employees.
Implements policies and procedures, CDC guidelines, CMS and Joint Commission Standards for the prevention and control of healthcare associated and community acquired infections for FLOYD and affiliated healthcare areas.
Conducts infection surveillance activities as directed.
Provides education on principles of infection control to hospital staff and the community.
Responds promptly to clinical staff regarding infection prevention issues.
Participates in the Infection Prevention and other committees as assigned.
Develops and/or maintains competency in infection control.
Reports communicable diseases as required by laws and enters accurately into SENDSS (State Electronic Notifiable Disease Surveillance System).
Other duties as assigned.
Continuing Education
Obtains at least twenty hours of annual continuing education
Completes unit and departmental annual skills validations
Maintains required unit specific competencies
Minimum Job Requirements
Education
Graduate of an accredited school of Professional Nursing
Certification / Registration / License
RN Valid License, active unencumbered Nursing license approved by the North Carolina Board
BLS certification
Experience
Experience or ability to learn epidemiological and statistical methods, infectious disease, sterilization, disinfection and sanitation, principles of adult education, patient care practices and quality improvement
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Excellent interpersonal relationship skills
Ability to work with diverse faith communities
Supervisory skills
