M-F procedural area business hours. No weekend/holiday. Cath lab 24/7 oversight.
Pay Range
$50.05 - $75.10Major Responsibilities:
Clinical Outcomes - Planning, management, implementation and evaluation to ensure quality, efficiency and cost effectiveness
Assists in patient care activities as needed.
1) Ensures compliance with all regulatory agency standards, (i.e., federal, state and local governing bodies Accrediting Organization) all hospital policies and procedures.
2) Communicates quality assurance and performance improvement outcomes to team while mentoring associates in CQI philosophy and processes. Leads hospital committees or task forces related to patient care quality improvement initiatives.
3) Monitors quality of care and patient satisfaction, oversees implementation of measures to improve both.
4) Facilitates and supports quality care improvement project implementations driven by the unit council and shared governance structure.
5) Develops and implements policies and procedures to assure efficient operations consistent with hospital and system philosophy, policies and procedures.
6) Works towards improvement of outcomes to improve patient care and other evidence based quality care compliance with a zero defect philosophy in providing appropriate care to all patients.
7) Supports and facilitates care management in conjunction with hospital protocols.
8) Facilitates evidence based practice changes recommended by the unit council and other shared governance patient care committees via provision of appropriate management guidance and support. Analyzes monthly performance outcomes and implements improvement action plans as indicated in collaboration with Director and unit council members.
9) Promotes patient safety by reporting of issues through established channels and participating as requested in safety initiatives. Demonstrates the three Behavior-Based Expectations (BBEs) of Commit to Quality, Critical Thinking, and Communicate Clearly and the Tools associated with each.
Funding Our Future - Preparation and administration of budgets to ensure adequate personnel, facilities and supplies
1 )Assures efficient utilization of staff, supplies and equipment. Responsible for day to day operations.
2) Identifies inventory levels and cost of supplies maintained in area. Works closely with supply chain initiatives and monitors compliance to program.
3 )Collaborate with Director and Medical Director on new and expanding program proposals with cost/budget implications .Participates in completion of financial/program feasibility studies.
4) Assesses impact of patient safety when evaluating new products recommendations on assigned units and includes this analysis in all final recommendations.
5 )Utilizes Associates at identified levels of competency as determined by State law, hospital policy and regulatory agencies.
6) Participates in short and long range strategic, financial and capital planning. Analyzes and plans for the needs of each area. Completes budget variance reports and analysis monthly and develops appropriate action plans with measurable outcomes.
7) Establishes staffing requirements. Plans for the appropriate utilization of human resources. Assesses acuity, caseload and complexity of patients to determine staffing levels.
8) Reinforces the inventory system developed in the department, along with charging of supplies; monitors process and makes changes when appropriate. Monitors and updates charge master at least on an annual basis or when services change.
9) Maintains FTE and position control with budgetary guidelines and works with recruiters to aggressively manage vacancies.
10) Plans and administers annual budgets and monitors budgetary expenditures, reports and justifies variances on an ongoing basis. Completes forecasting for annual and long term budgets.
Patient Satisfaction - Drives customer satisfaction (Patient, Physicians) strategies for the scope of responsibility and ensures alignment with IMMC and Advocate Strategic Vision.
1) Responds to and resolves patient complaints in a timely fashion utilizing service recovery strategies.
2 )Develops professional relationships with medical staff that utilize patient care area; strives to meet needs of medical staff to ensure patient satisfaction.
3 )Serves as a role model for all customer satisfaction initiative planning, communications and service recovery strategies.
5)Coaches Associates and reinforces use of the BBEs and safety tools in order to reduce errors related to patient safety.
6)Collaborates with physicians, management and other healthcare professionals to assure delivery of quality care, patient satisfaction and continual use of area services.
7)Coordinates activities with various other hospitals departments to ensure patient satisfaction as well as cost effectiveness.
8)Reviews unit level Advocate Experience Satisfaction results and coaches unit council and team through implementation of appropriate action plans based on trends to achieve defined customer satisfaction goal.
9)Drives customer satisfaction strategies for department in alignment with Advocate system vision and directly accountable for results as measured by the Advocate Experience survey tool, e.g. movement of percentile ranking scores.
10)Conducts daily rounds in conjunction with lead staff (and the Clinical Nurse Specialist as appropriate) to assess service levels and perception of patients and family members via interviews of customers within own areas.
11)Holds Associates accountable for exhibiting Advocate Service Breakthrough and Patient Safety behaviors and expectations with a zero tolerance for deviation from standards philosophy.
Associate Satisfaction - Responsible for the selection, development, motivation and evaluation of staff
1) Recruits, selects, mentors and motivates direct reports to achieve area and personal goals and objectives. Celebrates accomplishments of the Team and recognizes achievements of individual Associates.
2) Actively supports and encourages professional advancement of nursing staff to achieve goals of 50% or greater specialty certifications by RN staff, encourage promotion of STEPs candidates annually to NC III or IV and progress towards advanced degree completion by 1 or more of the RN staff on the unit. Manages opportunities for continuing education hour acquisition for STEPs certifications and annual maintenance levels by collaborating with Clinical Nurse Specialist regarding unit, hospital, system, local, regional and national educational offerings attendance.
3) Coordinates recruitment activities, facilitates and promotes retention strategies. Serves as unit’s Chief Retention Officer to develop, implement and evaluate strategies to retain Associates. Manages high risk Associate populations prone to turnover to actively manage turnover potentials.
4) Assesses educational needs of the staff and facilitates educational opportunities. Ensures adequate orientation and cross-training programs.
5) Assists individuals with identifying professional goals and provides opportunities to achieve those goals. Conducts timely annual performance reviews and provides additional feedback on a regular basis.
6) Identifies and mentors future leaders for the team, focusing on the quality care, business strategies and six key results areas.
7) Utilizes skills of Associates to enhance the performance of the team in the patient care area through meaningful delegation of work.
8) Monitors and facilitates the resolution of performance and/or other employee relations issues. Implements and coordinates disciplinary procedures.
9)Facilitates staff meetings relating to department(s), hospital and system activities.
10) Pursues self development strategies. Stays abreast of current standards of care via literature, educational events, internal/external resources and networking. Participates in activities to enhance professional growth by involvement in professional organizations and continuing education.
Growth - Builds a departmental reputation and maintains patient care area on the cutting edge of performance and quality via input into implementation of strategic partnership with Clinical and Medical Directors.
1) Collaborate with Communications and Director on marketing plan for CV service line.
2) Determines technical equipment needs to facilitate serviceline growth opportunities.
3) Keeps abreast of changing care protocols and advances in Cardiovascular Medicine that has the impact to affect services offered.
4) Collaborates with Director to establish new processes or product lines that improve quality, satisfaction or productivity outcomes.
5) Works with physicians, Clinical Nurse Specialist and other resources to develop required educational and competency plan along with any other tactics to support implementation of changed or new services provided.
6) Performs proactive risk assessment to evaluate patient safety implications of new services and processes.
7) Manage scheduling systems, turn over time for interventional rooms and other operational processes to optimize efficiencies and maximize patient flow.
Physician Relations - Maintenance of effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
1) Works with Medical Staff to integrate medical standards to ensure provision of quality patient care.
2) Develops a partnership with Medical Directors of unit(s) to ensure that goals are established, plans to achieve goals are created, and monitors are put in place to measure outcomes in quality as well as patient, staff and physician satisfaction.
3) Manages professional account relationships with key physician staff, e.g. physicians with complaints, residents, etc. that utilize their patient care area(s) to achieve an excellent image of nursing and excellent interdisciplinary relations.
4) Identifies and corrects safety issues on assigned unit in collaboration with Director and Medical Director.
5) Participates hospital physician relations improvement strategies.
6) Implements a minimum of one physician relations improvement process annually.
Education/Experience Required:
• Bachelors Degree required (BSN) • 2 years of previous management experience focused in cardiology and physician organizations. • RN with 4 years previous clinical experience including 2 years experience in cardiology. • This position will need to recognize the needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated, i.e., understand normal patterns of adult behavior and look for signs of normal aging; prior experience with various age groups is preferred. Board Certified in Specialty (RCIS) or (RCEP), WI Licensure
